The Eclipse Moon Pack

Chapter 1

I don't know why I'm even here. I look around the overglorified ballroom, crystal chandeliers, flower center pieces, and god-awful dresses. the fabric of my own dress making my skin crawl. I hate full moon balls. All they are is massive excuses to dress up nice and have s*x. The Half-moon pack were the host this month and decided they wanted a masked ball. as if we can't tell who we're talking to just by their scent. The Luna wanted to require sent removing spray to add to the mystery, but that defeats the purpose of full moon balls.

"Scent them put and find your soul mate," I grumble under my breath. Im twenty-seven and have already met my Mate Alex, but what Gamma wants an omega for his mate. I flinch, remembering his harsh words

"How dare you approach me in front of everyone?" He growled in my ear, his hand on my upper arm gripping so tightly I loose feeling in my fingers.

"But you're my mate?" The metallic taste in my mouth and ringing in my ears registered long before the cold hard floor under me.

"You will never say that again. I Alex Hoffman Gamma of the Sunset Pack, reject you, Kaly Grace, as my mate."

I still remember the pain I felt through my body as he continued to beat me until I accepted his rejection. The Luna found me there on the floor hours later and rushed me to the hospital, where they confirmed I had multiple rib fractures and a popped lung from the rib, puncturing it. It took me a full month to be completely healed. While I was in the hospital, Alpha James had come to ask me if I knew who brutalized me. I remember nodding and quietly telling him, unsure if he would even believe me. Quietly telling him how Alex beat me to make sure I accepted the rejection. I'm not sure what happened after that, but I haven't seen or heard from Alex since that night.

*tink tink tink*

I blinked, looking towards Alph Garret and his Luna.

"We would like to thank all of the Alphas and their packs for being here for the monthly ball." he pauses for a moment for the cheers "I would like to announce that my Luna and me are expecting our first child so we will be holding off on the balls that we host until our pup is a little older." The nods of understanding from the crowd along with cheers and congratulations for the couple almost drowned out his next words. "So in our sted, the Eclipse pack will be hosting on our moons." This hushed the crowd we all knew that Luna Hailey was from the Eclipse pack and except her without a second thought, but the rumors on how that pack runs makes this news a hard pill to swallow.

"My brother runs the pack now, and he wants to start introducing his pack into the normalcy of our world instead of the seclusion my father caused. I will vouch for my old pack that there is nothing to fear. If, for whatever reason, something does happen, please do not hesitate to inform my brother and me." I saw the uneasy looks being passed and met eyes with my own Alpha briefly nodding that I would attend.

Alpha James spoke up

"I, for one, would love to attend the full moon Ball at the Eclipse pack. If you could, Alpha Garrett, pass my number along to the young Alpha. I have a few who would love to go."

He smiles and nods his head

"Yes, thank you, Alpha James"

Slowly, the rest of the Alphas and packs in attendance agree to this change.

"Great, thank you all for your understanding and cooperation! Please continue for the night!"

Alpha James and Luna Vivian slowly make their way to me. I nod respectfully as they walk my way. Luna hugs me tightly.

"How are you holding up, sweetheart?" I weakly smile

"I'll admit Luna. I'm just tired. I know second chance mates aren't likely, but I thought I'd find him by now, " my voice quivers for a moment before I clear my throat. Alpha James pats my shoulder

"I believe he's out there! Maybe the Eclipse pack will be a great thing for you." I smile weakly and nod.

"I hope so, Alpha." They both hug me and go on to enjoy their night. I wring my hands together for a momen, glance around the room, and turn away heading for the front door. I already knew that my mate wasn't in any of these packs unless someone new came. In which case, I would have already smelled them. I quietly open the door and walk out to the garden. I find my favorite spot on the fountain where the mist lightly falls on my skin, the roses and lily's perfume the air, the frogs croaking, and the fireflies. All make this one of my favorite packs to visit I close my eyes and lean back slightly turning my face up to the moon.

'Another month without a mate' I hear Bri grumble in my head.

'hopefully the Eclipse pack is the call for us' I feel her pacing in my head

'hopefully, I'm growing tired of being alone' he sadness washes over me in a wave. She was more affected by our mate rejecting us than I was. She still doesn't understand why he would do to us what he did. If I'm honest with myself, I don't understand either. I've just accepted it.

I open my eyes, staring at the moon and wonder, yet again why the moon goddess gave me my first mate. I'm sure she didn't expect him to reject me, let alone beat me.

I freeze my blood cold as ice. Staring at the moon that I swore spoke to me. I shake my head and wrap my arms around myself hurridly going to my room for the night.
