Chapter 5
The alarm startled Josh awake. He slapped the off button, rolled over, and stared up at the ceiling. Seven had come way too early, and his head felt as bleary as his eyes.
He sat up, and was surprised to see that Sheri was already awake. After their argument, they’d stayed up and watched television in an awkward silence, one that he was starting to become accustomed to, and then gone to bed around one.
She currently worked three nights and two days at the shelter. Today would be another night shift, so it was odd that she was up.
Josh got himself moving. He swung his legs off the bed, forced his tired body to slide down onto the floor, and did fifty sit-ups. That was supposed to be followed by the same number of pushups, but he gave up at twenty, and dragged his ass into a co
