Opening Scene:
Ellie debates whether to call or text Adrian. After hours of indecision, she sends a light-hearted text:
"Thanks for the note. Still not convinced your favorite author is better than mine. Coffee?"
Adrian responds immediately: "Only if you let me prove you wrong."
They agree to meet at Ellie’s favorite coffee shop.
Building the Relationship:
At the coffee shop, Ellie and Adrian fall into easy conversation. Adrian shares anecdotes about his writing process, his love for quiet spaces, and his fascination with human emotions. Ellie talks about her art and how it reflects her life experiences.
Adrian surprises Ellie by pulling out a small notebook filled with sketches of story ideas. She’s impressed by his creativity and insists he show her more. He hesitates but agrees, clearly flattered.
Ellie notices Adrian’s reluctance to talk about his past but doesn’t press him. Instead, she jokingly asks why someone so poetic spends so much time in bookstores instead of “out living a great story.” Adrian responds cryptically, “Sometimes, the greatest stories are the ones we only dream about.”
Foreshadowing Adrian's Secret:
After their coffee date, Adrian walks Ellie home. Along the way, they pass a street musician playing a melancholy tune. Adrian pauses, visibly moved, but brushes it off as admiration for the music. Ellie teases him for being overly sentimental, but she’s intrigued by his emotional depth.
As they part ways, Adrian briefly falters, clutching the railing of a staircase for support when Ellie isn’t looking. His momentary dizziness passes, and he smiles at her as if nothing is wrong.
Cliffhanger Ending:
That night, Ellie sketches a portrait of Adrian from memory, inspired by his mysterious charm. She decides to send him a picture of the drawing, captioned: “Not bad for someone I’ve only met twice, right?”
Adrian replies: “It’s perfect. I think I know who I’ll ask to design my book cover now.”
As Ellie blushes at the message, the camera pans to Adrian sitting alone in his dimly lit room. He opens a bottle of pills, stares at them for a long moment, then closes the lid without taking any. His face is filled with resolve but also quiet fear.
