“Layla?” Grandpa stands before me looking aghast. He is mercifully fully dressed. Despite all the people around him picking at piles of clothes or just settling on a robe, he’s dressed like he’s ready to go into the office. In one hand, he holds a metal cup of coffee that has tipped over, spilling coffee into his shoes until he drops it altogether. When the cup clatters to the ground, it snaps him back to attention. He looks back and forth between me and Daniel. “You shifted?” His voice sounds weak but hopeful. “What, no?” I shake my head at him. “Why would you ask that?” Grandpa closes his eyes and sighs heavily.
