“A-alex?” I say, using my hand to shield my eyes from the light. “Layla, what are you doing in my bed? I thought we talked about this.” There’s a cacophony of voices yelling in my ears now. I can’t make out any distinct words anymore, just raw noise. A scream pierces through my skull, and I curl up tighter. My arms are wrapped around my head, trying to block out the sounds. Alex says something else, but I just whimper in reply. I can feel myself starting to cry. One sound breaks through the chaos, and it’s Alex groaning. “Hold this,” he says, shoving something in my hand. My fingers close around the object, but I barely register it. Get up!
