I pick my phone up as soon as it chimes. It’s a text from Taylor. Two more come in quick succession.
‘You’re meeting ALEX at the LIBRARY!!!!????’

I put the phone back down on the wooden table. Okay, yes, I am meeting Alex at the library, and yes, I think he’s cute, but this is clearly not a date.
I hear the door open and whip around, but immediately see it’s just a woman and her toddler coming in. I sit back in my chair, but I start to feel a tightness in my chest. Maybe he won’t come? Maybe he won’t actually have any answers about the symbols in the ledger.
