Chapter 5

Elissa's POV. I opened my eyes and the first thing I noticed was the strange softness of the bed. “This isn't my room.” I said and looked around. The room was two times the size of mine. I tried to stand on my feet but it was futile. “You shouldn't be standing up so quickly, after the stunt you pulled last night.” A cheerful voice came and I turned to its direction. “Oh my goodness.” A gasp escaped my lips. Why was Jason Myers standing here? Was this in his room? I shifted uncomfortably. “I want to leave.” His eyes darkened for a moment before returning to normal, and he gave me a smile. “You need to eat something. You can't just leave.” I shook my head. This was crazy. If anyone knew I was with Jason Myers, I'd be so brutalized. “Please.” I said. This was the last straw and with the amount of work I have on my hands, I don't think I could take it. Jason sighed, “You said you'd listen to my offer.” The memory appeared in my head. Although it was blurry. He did mention something about an offer and unfortunately, he also mentioned a lot about me being his girlfriend. “I'm going to cover everything. From your mom's hospital bill to the missing money.” I laughed. “And then they'd say I seduced you?” “Their words don't matter.” He frowned. And I could see that my words hurt him. “And what do you want from me?” I said, biting my lips. It was like we both knew I couldn't refuse. I'd actually be foolish to refuse. “Two months, you'd be my girlfriend.” When he said it last night, I thought he was joking. But looking into his eyes, and without the alcohol blinding my thinking facilities, I realised this man was not lying. “Why me?” “Because you need the money badly, and I don't want someone who's after me for my looks. I want it to be done and I want to be through with it.” I bit down on my lips, what he said made sense. I was more concerned about college than a relationship. “Two months right?” I asked. He nodded and held out a piece of paper. “We can sign a contract if that'd be safer for you.” “It would.” I answered and it was done. I was giving up two months to be in a relationship with a stranger. Then something popped up in my head. The word I had heard in the boys’ restroom. At first I had imagined it to be a cough but it got clearer as I thought about it. “The other day in the toilet, you said a word.” I looked up at him. But there was no expression on his face, “My memory has been quite foggy since after the alcohol. I don't remember saying anything except a coughing fit.” His words were smooth and I merely shook my head. Maybe it was my mistake. Because I could swear he had called me, ‘Mate.’ “Wait but what about your girlfriend? Tracy?” My eyes widened. “I ended everything with her yesterday.” Jason answered, straightening his back. Shit. “And?” I probed. If Tracy found out it was because of me, I would be killed. My life throughout college has been quiet so far. I didn't want another mistake to blow it up. “Don't worry. I didn't tell her about you.” He looked at me with a smirk, “Would you like me to take you home or?” “It's fine. I can handle it.” I said quickly, there was no way I would let him do that. Not while that devil uncle was there. “And my mother?” “It's already started.” He said, and closed the door. I sighed. Everything about my life had changed in a day, and it felt like it was starting to get noisier than this. Can't a girl just desire her education and nothing more? For three days, I didn't go to school. My perfect attendance had its first dent and although it made my heart bleed, it was for the greater good—Peace. On the fourth day, I walked through the hall. No one was looking at me. They were all immersed in their conversation and it made me relieved. “It's better like this.” I said and my thoughts went to Jason. This must have been his handiwork. I made a mental note to thank him later. In twenty minutes, the bell for my next class would ring. Who would have thought twenty minutes was enough to ruin my day. I was in the female restroom when I heard the door slam hard. “Where's that boyfriend snatching b***h!” The spite in that sentence made my breathing stop. She was looking directly at me. I didn't know what to say. It wasn't just one person. It was Tracy and her entire gang. “Cat got your tongue?” She smirked, “Grab her.” Before I knew it, I was pinned down, “Tracy, listen to me. It's not what you think.” Her hand cracked across my cheek and I was greeted with the metallic taste of blood. It stung badly. “You think you can steal my boyfriend and get away with it?” Her smile twisted. She eyed me, “What does he even see in you?” She bit down on her lips. I didn't know what to tell her. “No, it's not like that, I didn't steal him.” “Do I look like a fool? You want to lie to me?” Tracy turned to her friend, “Cover her mouth.” And the next thing I felt was a hand pressed tightly over my lips. My heart hammered against my chest as I saw Tracy's fingers heading for my clothes. “Please. No. This is too far.” I tried to beg but the words came out muffled. With a quick movement, my clothes were ripped for shreds. The cold chill fell on my bare skin The instinct urge to cover myself came heavily over me, but my hands were tightly held back. “Now you'd see if he'd want you after this.” Tracy brought out her phone. My nightmares were turning into reality. “Or if anyone would want you at all.”
