Jack was waiting at the porch, and I could see the relief on his face when he saw us. "Dana!" he said, helping me get down the horse and hugging me. "I'm so glad you're unharmed. How did it go?" "We went, we won, they arrested," I said. My stomach grumbled. "I cooked dinner," Jack said. "Let's go eat, and you'll tell me everything." He prepared pulled pork, which I could smell from the entrance. He must have spent the entire time I was away cooking. Well, at least he worried productively. As we sat down on the kitchen table, eating the pork over toasted sesame seed buns with some tomatoes, ketchup, and mayo (freshly made, because it doesn't last long in this heat), I told him the story between bites.
