Maze P.O.V
We walk down the hall, with the sound of the soft wind filling that hall. The silence is broken by him.
“I didn’t expect someone like you to be royalty. I mean, your attitude doesn’t match a royal.” He said.
This guy just likes annoying people doesn’t he, well two can play this game;
“Well, you don’t fit what I thought would be a royal guard. I mean aren’t guards supposed to be young?” I said teasing.
I could tell that got under his skin. He looked like he wanted to punch something, but then he went back to look calm.
“Wow, that didn’t make you mad?” I said surprise.
He looked at me angrily and then said,
“Look, I’m not in the mood to deal with you. I’m just doing my job. If I had a choice I wouldn’t be here.” He said seriously.
“Well great minds think alike, cause I don’t want you to be my bodyguard,” I said annoyed.
As we walked, I heard an arrow being shot from the garden. I turn and see it coming towards me, and then Damien pulling me back. I could see the arrow going by in front of my eyes. It hits the wall and I sigh in relief.
“S-sorry Damien, I gotta work on my aim.” Said the soldier, nervously.
“How bout you work on your aim away from the castle numbnuts?!” Said Damien annoyed.
The soldiers run away at the sound of Damien screaming. I then realized that he was still holding me. And It felt warm and nice to have him hold me. I snap out of my mind and push him away from me.
“Not what you expected huh?” He said teasing me.
I hit him on the side of his head and started walking away from him. I could hear him walking, telling me to stop.
“Why is everyone so scared of you? I mean if it’s your face I understand.” I said jokingly
He didn’t react, just looked at me with an annoyed face. He sighed and answered;
“As you’ve heard, I take my job seriously. I don’t make many friends and try to do my best at my job. Protecting people is better than sitting pretty until something bigger comes along.” He said humbly.
“Guess we do have something in common after all,” I said quietly.
We continued the walk back in silence as we had started.
We arrived back at my room.
“Well Princess, if you request anything let me know. I’ll be outside your room if you need anything.” He said.
“I do have one question,” I said to him. “When will I be able to see my family? I know they told me, but is there a way to speed it up?” I asked him.
“Not really, they make you wait 30 days to allow you to settle in. Then you can see the family. All I can tell is you are working makes time go by faster.” He said.
I guess he’s right. If I keep myself occupied, I won’t realize the days going by.
“Alright, thank you. That’ll be all.” I said. He bows and I close the door.
-Uh! I need some rest.- I said as I laid on the bed and drifted to sleep.
~Hours later~
I woke up to realize that it was time for dinner. I head downstairs with my bodyguard and meet up with Ashley.
“Hey, Maze!” She said waving to me.
I go up and hug her. I needed that. She let’s go and realizes that my guard is behind me. She pulls me aside.
“Girl you need to tell me everything that happened!” She said excitedly.
I turn and tell my guard to leave us be and go with the other guards.
I began to tell Ashley about all that happened. From meeting with the family to talking with the prince, and finally having to have Damien as my guard. Ashley looks at me and inhales before talking.
“OH MY GOD!!!! I WISH I HAD YOUR LIFE!!!” She said shaking me violently.
“Not so fast, did you not hear me talk about the queen staring at me like she wanted to kill me or even worse that now I’m stuck having that rude guy as my guard?!” I said
“Please, that’s just how first introductions go. You think you hate them, but after getting to know them you might like them.” She said optimistically.
“No, the queen hates me and I hate that guy,” I said straight.
Ashley rolled her eyes.
“Whatever, you’ll change your mind sooner or later my friend. Just you watch.” She said while continuing to eat.
We continue eating and talking about Ashley’s day of screaming chefs and stressful cooking. I feel bad for her, but she’s doing something she loves, so I know she’s fine.
We say goodbye and head back. Damien and I don’t talk too much on the walk back. I wanted to say something, but I couldn’t.
We arrive at my room and I enter. I got into the shower and tried to relax today. I just hope nothing that extreme happens again. I dry off and head to bed.
I find myself staring at the ceiling replaying my talk with Ashley at dinner.
-After getting to know them, you might like them.-
Let’s hope she’s right. If I’m gonna stay here, I might as well try to be friendly.
