Chapter 9: The Marking

we talk while we hug each other, he tells me that he and his brother share the same dad but they have different mothers, his mom died when he was 4 and his dad remarried a few months after and Eric followed right after.

He talks about his childhood up north in the mountains and the pack he loves and cares for.

I tell him how I left my home town years ago and ended up here, because I pointed to a random spot on the map. How much I'm devoted to this pack and Marcy and her family adopting me like I was on of there own. My art and the book shop I work in part time now the season is slowing down.

We lay there getting to know the other and enjoying the warmth of each others company as dew starts to form on the long dried grass around the blanket.

he looks down at me and sheepishly says" I have no idea I um, really didn't pack it.

I prop my head up in my hands" if Luna Emily packed the basket, who knows, her pregnancy cravings are wild. I know for a fact she has been on a steady diet of cherry tarts, egg sandwiches and pickle chips the last two weeks."

he makes a face and we both look at the basket in question.

We sit up and start to unpack it. Inside there are 6 cherry tarts. A thermostat of hot tomato soup. 3 ham sandwiches, a large bag of potato chips. A bottle of wine and a container of grapes. 2 spoons, a few bowls and a handful of napkins that have hand drawn hearts with our initials.

A few tears slide down my cheek, and I'm overwhelmed buy the thoughtfulness of my sweet luna and alpha jackson.

I link her, I know she will be up waiting. " my Luna, thank you for the basket, we are in awe of your kindness as we lay here in the moonlight. I love you dearly my friend. please go to sleep. tell alpha Jackson I apologize for keeping you worrying, I'll find you later."

she links back " I'm so happy the goddess brought you back to the field, enjoy the moonlight with you're mate. I love you too I can't wait to hear ever juicy detail."

he sees my tears and cups my face with his hands and leans in gently kissing them away.

I close my eyes and mumble something about friends and love and chips.

He lays us down in the blanket again, side by side as he gently touches me.

I shiver against the tickling strokes and he reaches over to grab another blanket to throw over us. We snuggle deep under the covers not breaking contact with our kisses. He slowly unzips my jacket like he is opening a present.
