Chapter 7: The Office

When I got back to the pack house I was met by Luna Emily in the front entrance. She was demanding I explain everything that has happened. I was trying to link Jade and she was ignoring me.

Luna Emily was growing very stressed due to my lack of answers and Jackson came to our rescue.

"Sweetheart lets give him some space, he is probably trying to calm his wolf down. and is equally as confused as we are. Let's all calmly take a deep breath, and get to the bottom of this mess."

She seems to relax as He sweetly rubs her back.

He looks at me and points to his office doors.

I am still shirtless, sitting on the office couch in my jeans and boots. My head in my hands as I'm still trying to link my Mate. Bear whimpering to go back.

Luna Emily sits in a baby blue suede chair and Jackson leans up against his giant cherry oakwood desk arms crossed looking at me.

I look up I catch the concern glances they are exchanging with each other.

I felt pain in my chest like a rubber band being stretched too far out and my thoughts racing. I managed to get my emotions under control before I briefly told my friends what had happened after my brother had barged into Jades Cottege.

Jackson whistled in amazement when I recalled how she calmed The Bear down from the blood bath he was about to unleash.

Luna Emily jumps up and looks at my neck and points a finger at me. " Did you mark her!"

I shake my head almost in shame." No and she isn't answering my links. Let me go back to apologize please." I beg.

She raises her hand to silence me and she explains about what had happened after Jade and I left. when she told me about the altercation with Jackson and my grandfather. I must have looked like I was about to finish the job for Jackson myself because he responded quickly.

" Hold on there cowboy, I have your grandfather under house arrest in his room. I'm thinking about calling my grandfather out to talk to him. Since they are on equal levels of stubbornness maybe they will cancel each other out. "

I start pacing the office floor, livid at the actions my family has displayed and for what? Because they wanted me to mate with someone else?

"There is nothing wrong with our mate, we need to go to mate and make her our mate forever." I hear Bear bark.

Jackson walks to the door, opens it and comes back to throw a shirt at me. " Look, get dress, take a shower and cool off for a bit. Jade is just as shaken up and confused as you are. You are the next Alpha, I know your grandfather is currently in title, but you have found your mate. It's time you start calling the shots of your life the way you want it."

Luna Emily interjected " Marcy has Jade calmed down and they are going to get some sleep. You on the other hand have some making up to do. I understand the actions today are because of your brother and grandfather but as an alpha you must take full responsibility when a member of your pack acts out. Do you want to make this right?"

I nod my head " I would do anything, please both of you, help me make this right."

She walks over to her chair and pulls out a note pad. "Tonight is a full moon, Jade has never missed a full moon run. She may not be joining the group tonight and I don't blame her one bit. She is a private person and her life just got blown up for multiple packs to see. But even with that, she always runs. Here is her favorite spot to sit and think in."

She shows me a trail map and points to a meadow spot more then half way up the mountain.

Jackson puts his hand on my shoulder, " We have a lot of work to do if we are going to make our packs stronger. I've gone over your proposal for the merger and I'll handle to negotiations. But we need to talk about a few more things before we announce this at the end of the week. In fact, meeting your mate will make the negotiation even easier than we thought before"

Luna Emily comes over and grabs my hand, I'm touched by the kindness and support of my two friends. I'm amazed how wise my friend has become.

Where we not just getting kitchen duty as punishment after putting a whole flock of sheep in the library. For a prank so we didn't have to finish our academy test?

Here he was a Leader of a strong pack. With an amazing and brilliant Luna and a young family of his own.

I thank them both and Luna Emily tells me she is going to fix up a surprise for me and that. I need to meet her out by the front gate around midnight when everyone goes for their runs.

She walks out of the office leaving Jackson and I to talk more about the merger and the concerns the other pack had. He and I look over old maps.

"Our mate is crying, go to our mate and comfort her, why are you here!" Bear is getting restless and I feel the burning pain knowing she is crying and I am the cause.

"Bear, hey man look we messed up, and we have to take this slow. We will see mate tonight. I need you to calm down ok?"

Bear doesn't respond but I feel him staring at the door and I can't tell he is angry with me.

Jackson laughs. I take it you and Bear are not agreeing with what to do.

I run my hands in my hair and sit back on the couch.

" Can I be honest with you?"

Jackson nodded

" I'm tearing myself apart from the inside wanting to run all the way back to that little Cottege and curl up at the foot of her bed and beg for forgiveness. Im confused about the reaction of my grandfather. He has been extra shifty lately and It's no secret he wants my brother to step up and take the alpha title. I don't think they are capable of hurting anyone. Then again I'm not so sure after today. I almost want to reject her so she is safe from what ever this is."

Bear snarled and threw himself against my chest at the very mention of rejection.

Jackson didn't look surprised at my statement, he sat at his desk.

"As an Alpha to another Alpha, you need to do what's best for your pack. If you feel like this is the best choice for your pack and it's growth. Then do so, but make it quick. the longer the bond holds the more painful it will be to break it."

I gulped, but my throat has gone dry as dust.

Bear is at war in me.

He continues, his tone changing almost fatherly. " Now friend to friend, and someone who has known Jade for 5 years and watched how she has loved and helped this town. Her devotion to my wife and my children. I will tell you this, If you hurt her, or play with her heart. If you let an old man and his old ideas stop you from having a Luna that will make not only your pack better but you as a person. You are not the man I think you are."

We sit staring at each in the silence. His words sink in and Bear stops fighting inside me. His words made my clouded mind clearer and I nodded respectfully.

We go back to the task at hand and we get to work creating a fool proof merger offer and help me set up a future for my pack and my Luna.

Midnight couldn't get here soon enough.
