“Par… Pardon?” I squinted at him. “Weren't you the one who brought yourself here?” I stared at him as I tried to understand what was wrong with him.
He slowly made to sit up, but I place a hand to stop him. His green eyes met mine with a question he couldn't voice out.
“You need to rest. I can't have you opening up the wound.” I urged him to lie back on the ground, and he did so without questioning my actions.
“Where am I?” His eyes didn't leave mine.
“Who are you?” I sit on the ground next to him, and fold my arms, waiting for him to answer the question.
I need to make certain he's okay before I leave. Though I feel a tang at the thought of not seeing him again, I know this is the last time I will see him. Vampires and werewolves are mortal enemies. We don't coexist.
It's a surprise he hasn't killed me yet, seeing I've helped him. His wound has long closed, thanks to the leaves and his vampire powers.
He only needs to rest to get his powers restored. After that, I will be a pawn he can toss out of the way if he so cares to do that, not that I will sit back and watch him do that —just saying.
“I don't know.” He mumbles so low, I have to strain my ears to hear those words. He slowly glances up, “I don't know who I am or how I got here.”
“You don't know who you are?” I yell. “How possible can that be? You are a bloodsucker!”
He winces, looking like my words hurt him. His eyes darkened a bit before returning to the bright, confused look he had earlier.
“Who are you?” He asks instead of replying to my outbursts about him being a bloodsucker and whatnot.
I sigh, “I'm Lala. The only daughter of the Alpha of the black creek.” I answer monotonously, already used to the words, since that's what I introduce myself with whenever my father brings company.
And those companies are none other than the Alphas my father wants me to get married to. He doesn't support my wish to rule the pack with my eldest brother and wants to bundle me off into another pack.
“Where do you live?” He glances around as if he's searching for my house. I raise a brow. Is this vampire insane, or did he lose his memories?
I peer at him as I try to understand what the hell is going on.
“I live in the pack house with my family. Where did you come from?” I ask, trying not to sound biting. It's getting late, and I need to leave. I've done my part by helping him, leaving is the next thing — well, after I pluck the leaves from the tree he's resting on.
“I don't know.” He places a hand on his forehead. “I can't recall anything. The last thing I remembered was a fight with an animal, then you… You arrived.” His green eyes don't leave mine even while he narrates. It seems like he's trying to make me know that he's not lying.
“So, you lost your memories?” I sigh. This isn't what I'm expecting. I hoped he will leave now that he's healed, but with no memories, I doubt he will be able to find his way home.
Hell, he might wander into our pack, and end up getting killed, and then all the time I've wasted on him will be in vain. I glance up at the sky. The sun is still up, but it's gradually returning to its horizon. Soon, the entire forest will be dark.
But that's the least of my problems. I worry that Hilda might report my absence to my parents should I not return in time. The Betas in my group won't seek me out. Hell, they will be happy to get rid of me.
You might wonder why I still stayed with them, despite knowing how much they hate me. Well, I love the feeling I get whenever they follow my commands despite their deep hatred for me. They would have long gotten rid of me had it not been for my strength and ability to fight three men at a time.
He slowly sits up, with his eyes still on me. The green orbs glance down my body before they return to my face.
“I don't know who I am,” he drawls out. “I just found myself here. Hell, I only know my name.”
“And that's?” I raise a brow.
“Luxinda.”
“Lux? Your name sounds… Like that of a vampire.” I chuckled, to hide how nervous I felt.
Okay, I will confess. This was the first time a man looked at me with an expression that was neither disgust, envy nor hate. His looks are like that of a kid, looking up to a mother. It made me sigh.
“Do you know who I am?” He earnestly asks, sounding like he was moments from gripping my arms.
“Aside from the fact that you are a vampire? No, I don't.” I slowly shake my head. “I don't know who you are or where you came from.”
His shoulder drops, a clear sign that he has given up — or is in the process of doing so. “I guess I'm not like you.” He gently runs a hand through his red mass of hair.
The image, he made, makes it feel like I dashed his world into pieces while all I did was tell the truth.
I glance up at the sky once more before I made a decision which might come back to bite me. I don't have much time left. It's either I do that or leave him here, which doesn't sit well with me.
I can't leave him here, not if I want him to survive. He will be preyed on by both the animals and anyone who gets their hands on him.
I slowly rise to my feet, and gesture for him to do the same. With a confused expression on his face, he slowly did what I wordlessly asked of him.
I squinted up at him. God Goddess, I know I'm short, but never have I seen myself that way. However, with the man in front of me, towering over me like a giant, I finally realized that I'm small.
His large frame and 6'4 (1.93 m)heights make me feel like a child in front of her father. He peered down at me before he slowly tilts his head to the side, clearly asking what the next plan was.
“I will take you to a place where you will stay until you regain your memories— if you will. You will be safe there.” I add, with a smile, to ease the frown that's slowly marring his handsome face.
“Will you be there?” He furrows his brows. “Are you taking me to your home?”
“Of course not, silly. Taking you to the pack is a suicide mission, one I won't like to embark on. I have a cottage not too far from here. You will stay in there until you heal.”
“Oh… Okay.”
Yet, I feel like he doesn't like it. His mouth said another, while the expression in his eyes says something else.
