Chapter 38 BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

1269 Words

Mira's POV The knock came an hour after her parents went to bed. Mira knew who it was before she opened the door. The certainty settled in her chest—warm, magnetic, undeniable. Valeblack stood on her porch in jeans and a black sweater, silver hair loose around his shoulders. No suit. No Council formality. Just a man who'd driven across town in the dark because he needed to see her. "You shouldn't be here," Mira whispered. "If anyone sees—" "Let them see." He stepped inside, closing the door behind him. "I'm done hiding." The space between them felt electric. Mira was suddenly aware of everything—her thin pajama pants, the tank top that showed too much collarbone, the way his grey eyes tracked down her body and back up with deliberate slowness. "Valeblack—" "Mira."
