“You look stunning,” Lachlan walked up behind me, adjusting his bow tie in the mirror. Tonight was one of the dress-coded evenings. Tomorrow was Christmas Eve, and the following day was Christmas. Each night there is a different holiday meal, games, and dancing in the main ballroom. My fingertips tremble as I try to slide my earrings into place, “Thank you,” I offer him a smile, but my mind is far away. The ballroom is set up for sunset views of the ocean, which is a dream for most, but not me. “Here,” Lachlan gently grips my shoulders, spinning me around before plucking the hoops from my fingers.
