Chapter Two - Lord Blake

2517 Words
✩Blake✩ Thoughts of the stunning maid left my mind as I hurried down the hallway towards my new office. I still couldn’t believe that I, Blake Welsh, was now the new Lord of Uza. I didn’t think too much about the previous Lord. He had failed. Big time. I pushed open the doors and glanced around my neat and tidy office. I didn’t have much time and the Seniors wouldn’t tolerate my tardiness. I grabbed the folder that was laying on the corner of the desk and hurried over to the secret door on the left side of the room. It was a part of the black stained wooden bookcase and I quickly hurried to close it behind me. I headed down the stairs and groaned out as I remembered that I had skipped breakfast. I really shouldn’t entertain myself with the females in the castle. I finally reached the Assembly and I could tell that I was just in time. Although the Seniors eyes me disapprovingly, they couldn’t say anything. I rubbed my free hand along the front of my shirt and sat down.  “Welcome Lord Blake,” the eldest Senior, Earl, greeted me and I smiled warmly at him. He was, by far, my favorite. He was the one who had elected for me to take over Uza, champion of the black. “Thank you,” I said as I placed the folder on the large round table in front of me. “What is the order of business for today?” I asked as I waited for the reports to come in. The Seniors where exactly that. Old and outdated. They still believed in traditions and so on. I, on the other hand, believed in the twenty-first century. I wished they would learn how to use a computer and how to send emails and text messages. It was wishful thinking as I knew that it would never happen.  “We’ve been approached by our neighing champions,” one of the Seniors spoke up. “Drake Cooper from The Blue’s, has put forward a very promising alliance proposal,” he added, and I nodded. I didn’t believe in alliances, but I was aware of The Blue’s history and they would make for a promising alliance. “Contact Drake and set up a meeting,” I ordered casually. “Very well,” he said as he noted it down.  “Lord Blake, we’ve also been approached by several wolf and bear shifters,” another Senior said, and I huffed out to show my frustration. “I’ve told you before, I have no interest in any other shifter,” I snapped out. Before, many moons ago, we all lived in peace. Until an immensely powerful witch had decided she wanted more. Ever since then, the split had taken effect and different supernatural beings relied on their own kind. I wasn’t about to change that. “Those wolf and bear shifters should look to one another,” I added as I sat back and relaxed. I had realized that being a Lord would be easy. So far, nothing too serious or too complicated had arisen. The Seniors didn't even seem as scary as I remembered. “The High Priestess of The Witches of Silver Star has also been in contact,” Earl said softly, and I leaned forward to listen to what he had to say. I hated witches. More so than any other supernatural being. “She is a curious one and asked many questions, especially about you, my Lord,” “She can ask as many questions as she likes, I don’t care but I don’t want anything to do with any witches,” I said, and I stood up. All this meeting had done was show me that I am in control, even over these Seniors and that many wanted to form an alliance with Uza. “I’ll see Drake, as for the rest, I am not interested,” I pushed the folder I had brought with me into the center of the table and sighed. Before I would’ve addressed the Seniors and sought out their advice but now, I felt differently. “Have a look at that, I’ve chosen my warriors, my leaders and my second in command,” and with that, I turned around and headed back up the staircase that led to my office. I breathed out a massive sigh of relief when I closed the bookcase behind me. “I went by your room this morning,” Kayne Parkmore suddenly said, and I gasped as I looked over at the large dark-haired male sitting comfortably on the black leather sofa. “And I must say, I don’t know how you can handle two,” “That is none of your business,” I said as I brushed off invisible flint from my jacket and headed to the large black stained wooden desk. “Ai, no, it isn’t my business, but,” Kayne stood up and headed over to me. “It will become Josephine’s if you aren’t careful,” he politely pointed out and I groaned as I rested my head against the cool wood. I slowly banged my head against the desk as I thought about Josephine Winter. Head of the house. In other words, she was the one that made sure the castle stayed clean, that meals where cooked, and that supplies never ran out. I hated her. She annoyed the s**t out of me, and I could do nothing to get rid of her. She always tried to suck up to me and I felt that it was so false. The previous Lord had made odd choices and although I could see how Josephine’s order of business was somewhat desirable, I couldn’t stand her. Her workers, or staff, or whatever you wanted to call them, now, they, on the other hand, were very desirable. I had to say, Josephine’s choice of staff was very much – “Stop that!” Kayne suddenly broke through my train of thought and I lifted my head up and stared tiredly at my best friend. “Tell me, how did the Seniors take the news?” he asked, and I chuckled as I leaned back in my chair. “I didn’t stick around to find out,” I admitted, and Kayne burst out laughing. “Oh, so there won’t be any problem with me being your second in command?” he asked, and I shook my head. “None, besides, Balmy isn’t exactly my kind of dragon,” I said seriously as I thought about the other second in command. Balmy was and would always be a creep. It was a good thing he had been arrested with the previous Lord. I don’t think I would’ve been able to put up with him. “Good, now, let’s go back to those two beauties you had stashed away in your bedchamber,” Kayne said with a suggestive wink and I smirked. “Yes, well, a distraction that needed to be satisfied, although,” suddenly my thoughts went back to that stunning blonde I had bumped into earlier. “There is a new one that has arrived,” “Oh, do leave her for me,” Kayne said, and I shook my head. “No can do, this one is mine,” I said. I wasn’t about to say it out loud, but I already knew that there was something special about Dawn Morgan and I would be damned if I didn’t find out.  ✩✩✩ “Good afternoon, my Lord,” three females eagerly greeted me as I entered the dining room with Kayne. I wasn’t in the mood. The rest of my morning had been taken up by budgets, planning, meetings, and I was quite starved. I didn’t bother paying any attention to anyone as I sat down and stared at the meal that had been quickly placed before me. “What is this?” I asked as I tried to identity the dish. “It is macaroni and cheese,” someone answered, and I nodded. Macaroni and cheese.  I had never heard of it before and as I started to eat, I kept looking for the meat. “Where is the meat?” I roared out, irritated. “Calm down,” Kayne hissed out from my right, but I ignored him as I continued to search through the pile of macaroni. “Second course, my Lord,” someone hurried to point out, but I still wasn’t in the mood. “Then bring me the second course!” I demanded and almost immediately my plate was taken away and I could clearly hear them shuffling about. “What is your problem?” Kayne asked me and I sighed as I glanced over at him. “When I had envisioned being a Lord, this was not it,” I explained my sour mood. “Paperwork? Meetings?” “What had you envisioned?” he asked curiously. “Training with the warriors, fighting alongside my brothers, being my true self, not this,” I waved my hand over my chest area, indicating this human form. “So, delegate,” Kayne suggested, and I shook my head. No, I couldn’t do that. Could I? Suddenly another plate was set in front of me and this time I glanced up to see none other than Dawn. “Rare to medium fillet with a mushroom sauce and wild rice,” she whispered. “I’ll have some of that,” Kayne said, and I knew he wasn’t talking about the food. I felt protective over her and I let out a low growl in his direction. He immediately got the point and turned away, focusing on his own food. “Thank you, Dawn,” I said softly to her as I picked up my fork. Dawn blushed before she hurried off and I couldn’t help but admire her as - “Once again, stop that,” Kayne snapped out, interrupting my thoughts. I turned my attention to the steak before me and smiled. Now, this was more like it. I started eating and let out a small moan of pleasure. “Damn, is it that good?” he asked as he eyed my plate. I pushed it over to him, so he could taste. “Melts in your mouth,” I said as I watched him take a chunk. “Hey!” I quickly withdrew my plate before he could take anymore of it. “Hmm, yes, that is quite delicious,” he commented, and I rolled my eyes as I continued enjoying my meal. Kayne kept me company as he talked about various issues that may need my attention. I wasn’t really paying attention as my mind kept drifting back to Dawn. I never got emotionally involved with the females I took to my bed, but something told me that with her things would be different. Was I ready for that? I knew I wasn’t. I had a reputation to uphold as well as my legacy.  ✩✩✩ I needed to get out, this day has been hell. I pushed open the glass double doors in my bedchamber and stepped out onto the balcony. Looking out, I could see the sun was starting to set and it was truly breathtaking. I sighed heavily as I unbuttoned my shirt and tossed it one side. I needed to fly. I hurried to slip off my pants and I could feel the ache start in my lower back. Transforming into my dragon always seemed to calm me and I closed my eyes and stood tall. I didn’t need to see myself to know that my skin had turned black and scaly. I forced open my eyes as I stretched out my long neck. My humongous wings growing out of my shoulder blades. My wings are heavy and scythe shaped. The inside of my wings looks like thin crystals that gleamed in the setting sunlight. The outside of my skin is like armor. My tail is long and ends in a sharp, arrowhead-shaped tip and it looked radiant. I flap my wings once, twice, before I push up and reach for the sky. There is nothing better than hearing the whoosh of the wind as I fly higher and higher. I feel free and I circle around the castle. This was my home now and I knew that I would have to change things if I wanted my life to be easier, better. So many were watching me and hoping I would fail. I couldn’t do that. I had to change my mindset and stop wasting precious time in my bed. Once again, my thoughts turned to Dawn, and I lost myself as I remembered the color of her eyes. It was such a pretty and unique shade of green. Her nose was dainty and so adorable that I wanted to lick her from her nose to her full plump lips. I shook my long head to clear my thoughts and tried to concentrate on work. It was hopeless as I imagined her lying in my bed. Her soft golden colored hair flared out across my pillows. Her pale skin littered with my love marks. Get a grip! I told myself as I soared through the sky. I glanced behind me and spotted another dragon coming towards me. Kayne. Where I was pitch black, he was a dark red. His wings, although not as big as mine, was quite impressive. His tail was thick and then thinned out into a graceful sharp tip. Narrow ruby red eyes glowed with mischief and I changed my direction and flew straight towards him. At the very last second, Kayne swerved to the right and I let out a puff of smoke from my warped nostrils. Glory is mine! I shouted out and Kayne ducked underneath me. Glory is always yours! He shouted right back, and I laughed. We continued to fly around, enjoying the coming evening. When I flew back down to my balcony and shifted back into my human form, Kayne did the same. “I am still envious of your dragon,” he said, and I rolled my eyes. Of course, he was envious. No other dragon looked like me. I was special. I had a legacy to fulfill. “You are such a chicken,” I remarked as I went inside my bedchamber and took out two robes from the large closet. I slipped one on and handed the other to him. As much as I loved him, seeing him naked was not ideal. “Thanks,” he said as he took the robe and put it on. “By the way, I spotted that girl from earlier,” “Oh?” this caught my attention and even though I didn’t want it too, it did. “I would say that she was looking for something or someone,” he said with a smirk and I shook my head. “Maybe you can have her, if she’ll let you,” I said. I didn’t mean it. Not one bit and as I glanced over at him, I prayed that he would reject the idea. “I’d love to!” he exclaimed but then the smirk fell away. “But I have a feeling it is you she is after,” Kayne waltz out of my bedchamber and I sat on the edge of the king-sized bed. Was she after me? I wasn’t sure how I felt about that. I somehow knew that Dawn Morgan would be a distraction, I couldn’t afford. The question was: would she be able to handle the heat? I chuckled as I shook my head and stood up. It wouldn’t help to entertain such thoughts. I had no plan on seducing the young girl. I went into the adjoining bathroom and took a much-needed cold shower. I hurriedly got finished for dinner. I was quick because I was hungry not because I was hoping to see Dawn serving me dinner.
