A New Friend

654 Words
It's Monday morning and I had just spent a whole week unpacking and getting my new life together; then my mom mentions that is time for school. Groaning I step away from the table and go to my room to find something half way suitable to go to school in. I grab the closest t-shirt and throw it over my brown matted hair. I then locate a pair of pants that didn't have a hole in the knee or stain on them. I then wander t the bathroom to apply eyeliner and mascara to make myself appear half way alive and human. Jogging down the stairs my dad shakes his head and grins knowing my mom would disprove. He then wraps me in a hug and pats my back. Looking for my mom she wanders out and hands me a brush, "At least brush that mop so you at least like a tamed homeless child." Brushing the knots out of my hair she gestures me out the door so that we can get along with our day.     Once we get in the car she looks at me " I wish you could see how beautiful you are. You don't have to hide behind make up and tom boyish clothes." I rolled my eyes and looked away. She continues to state, "You're eyes are beautiful Madison.Your hair is what so many girls dream of." Dropping the conversation when I dug out my phone and headphones.      We arrived at the school. I was a whole 2 stories larger than that of the one in my hometown. Opening my door I turn to my mom "I love you, and thank you." I step out the door and close it before she can reply. The school was brick and had a lot of windows. Kids were everywhere. there was so much chatter and laughter among the groups. I continued my way through the puddles to the front doors and let myself in. I wandered to the left and found the office where they assigned me with classes and sent me on my way with no direction. Just how my day would go I thought to myself.      "Hey!" a echoing voice said behind me, "New girl.. Um... Madison!" I turn to see a lanky yet very muscular man child walking towards me. As he got closer I noticed how dark he appeared. I knew from that point on that this would be someone that I would show great interest in. His hair was almost black and his skin pale yet complimentary to his hair and green eyes. "Yes?" I retorted, "emo kid. Oh um wait, I didn't catch your name."      He laughed, "Erick. My names Erick. Do you need help finding your classes?"     "Yes, please. They failed to mention where any of them were or even a general idea."     "They fail to tell every new kid. I was in your shoes last year."     We wandered down the long hallway were he showed me into my first class. Chemistry my favorite. At least we are starting the day with something that I can enjoy. I found a seat at the back of the class hoping no one  would notice me and avoid eye contact. Is that ever how this goes? Absolutely not, a girl wearing a baby blue v-neck plops her books down next to me and gives me the biggest grin I had ever seen. Dread filled my thoughts. "Hi, I'm Alisha. You must be Madison." My heart sank. All of these people already knew my name yet I knew none of them. Where I'm from everyone know each other because you're either siblings, cousins, or neighbors. "Yes. I'm Madison, you must not get many new students,." She giggled, "We get new students all the time. We just try to welcome the best we can." I then just buried my head into the table and hoped she'd walk away.
