Chapter 3

THE FATEFUL COLLISION

Nathan's POV

“I'm Nathan???”.. Why would that be the first thing I'd say after almost killing someone with my car?

I was in deep trouble already, I knew it. I had called for an ambulance, and it was almost 6 minutes, yet I couldn't hear a siren from any direction. I couldn't risk allowing this lady to die.

Without further ado, I lifted her almost lifeless body and tried to put her in my car.

As i raised her from the ground, something caught my eye,

It was a shiny silvery metal, and she was gripping it firmly.

I gently opened her palm to see what it was, so I could remove it. And what I saw shocked me to my bone marrow.

It was a KNIFE?? And not just a random kitchen knife but a pen knife that was stained with B..L..O..O..D.

This meant two things. Either she had tried to kill herself as she was bleeding in her head, or she had tried to kill someone. Either way, this lady was dangerous and there was no way I would be putting her in my car.

“Better take her to a goddam hospital, or you'll get arrested for murder’’ My inner man scolded.

My heart panicked at that thought. I was actually in the middle of an emergency. Whether she was dangerous or not was none of my business. My job was to take her to a hospital as quickly as possible, and avoid going to jail for murder.

This woman looked terrifying. Her hair was really messy, her body was battered with injuries, she had dried black tears which had rolled from her eyes to her chin, and was holding a blood-stained knife. She looked like a doll that had just walked out of a horror movie.

Yet, I couldn't deny the fact that she was really beautiful and the most attractive doll I have ever seen.

“Take her to a goddam hospital, would you?”

I hurriedly carried her into my car and started speeding to a hospital. I was accelerating at about 180 km per hour, but I didn't care. I needed to save this beauty.

After a 15-minute drive, I finally got to a good hospital in town.

“Alpha Nathan??, what a surprise” one nurse rushed towards me smiling seductively.

“Take this lady right here to the ICU immediately, and make sure she gets VIP treatment. I don't want to hear any excuses or apologies”, I ordered with a stern face, ignoring her stupid smile.

Immediately, doctors and nurses started rushing with stretchers, drips and everything needed to start surgery immediately.

“You can't go in Sir”. A doctor reprimanded me.

Of course, I couldn't. What was I even thinking? Why was I even being protective of this stranger?

Immediately the door flung open, I basically rushed towards any nurse that was coming out of her ward to ask them questions about how her surgery was going, but they all shook their heads and said nothing.

Tiredly, I sat on a long chair in the passageway leading to her room. I was really worried and was praying she would come out alive.

Finally, after about 2 hours of waiting, a doctor walked up to me and gave me a form to fill in.

I grabbed the form from him immediately.

“How is she doing sir?’’ I asked while filling out the form.

“This patient had severe injuries on her body but while the surgery was going on, we noticed she was self-healing”, The doctor started.

Self-healing? Could she be a werewolf or a vampire?? Things were really getting interesting.

“There's a high probability she is also a werewolf, but maybe an Omega due to the slow pace at which she was healing”, Doc continued.

I stared at him defiantly, what the hell do I need this information for? All I wanted to know was if she was dead or alive.

“Well, I'm telling you this because I have bad news and good news” he stated, like he could read my mind.

The only bad news I was scared of hearing was that this lady was going to die. That would damage my reputation as an Alpha forever. I would never be able to rule my pack as a murderer. And if that's the bad news, then he'd better keep the good news to himself. There was no good news.

“I'll go with the bad news first”, I said, with a shaky voice.

"Good choice, okay. So the bad news is that her body is healing but very slowly and her soul wasn't responding” The doctor started with a dull look on his face.

“What do you mean by that doc”

" I mean she won't regain her consciousness anytime soon. She will most likely be in a coma for a week or more”, the doctor explained.

“Oh okay….”

“No it's not. There are three things that might happen to her. One…she might not wake up after the expected week and die from a coma. Two…she might wake up with amnesia,….. Lastly, she might wake up normally ”

Okay… Honestly, I would love to go with the middle option. I wouldn't want to explain myself to her when she wakes up. At least the victim would not remember that I had almost killed her. The first option scared me to my pants and I didn't even want to imagine it.

“Please Doc, nothing should happen to her” I pleaded.

The doctor didn't respond, he just gave me a reassuring look and smiled, collecting the form from me which I was done with filling.

“You omitted a question sir, who is the patient to you?” The doctor asked, gazing at the form defiantly.

I couldn't dare say she was just a stranger I had hit with my car and decided to take her to the hospital to avoid getting arrested. Neither was I going to say she was my family member or my cousin. I was the alpha of the Silverton pack. Everybody knows my family members.

“She is my mate!” I heard myself say.

“Ah, amazing Alpha Nathan, I didn't know you had a mate! What a surprise!” The doctor said, smiling at me.

Wait, why was he smiling?? Couldn't he see through my lies?I know I am a terrible liar, but I can't be this horrible, right?

“Why are you smiling Doc?’’

“Your mate is 6 weeks pregnant!” The doctor exclaimed.

My face fell immediately. What in the world was I hearing right now? She was pregnant?? How could I be so heartless to hit a pregnant lady with my car .

Wait, I'm supposed to be happy and smiling by now, right?

“Oh my goodness, Doc be serious’’ I said, plastering a fake smile.

“Congratulations to you Alpha Nathan, you are about to become a father!’’ The doctor's smile had widened to a very big grin.

I wasn't sure whether to laugh or smile at that point.
