CHAPTER 6 Roshan paced back and forth in his living room, the soft glow of the evening sun casting long shadows across the floor. His mind was a jumble of doubts and uncertainties, each one tangling itself around the next like a knot. He had accepted responsibility for Mira's baby, but now that the due date was looming, he couldn't shake off the feeling that he was making a huge mistake. What if he wasn't ready to be a father? What if he couldn't provide for the baby? What if Mira's past came back to haunt them? Roshan's thoughts swirled with anxiety, making his chest feel tight and his breath come in short gasps. He stopped pacing and took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. But before he could spiral further, Mira's voice cut through the chaos. "Roshan, I think it's time," she said, her voice laced with excitement and nervousness. Roshan's heart skipped a beat as he turned to face Mira. She stood in the doorway, her hands clutching her belly and a look of determination on her face. Roshan took a deep breath, pushing aside his doubts and fears. "Let's get to the hospital," he said, trying to sound calmer than he felt. The drive to the hospital was a blur, with Roshan's mind racing with thoughts of the future. What would fatherhood be like? Would he be good enough? He glanced over at Mira, who sat with her eyes closed, her face pale and drawn. As they arrived at the hospital, Roshan's doubts momentarily faded, replaced by a sense of wonder and awe. He watched as Mira was wheeled into the delivery room, the medical team buzzing around her like bees. The smell of antiseptic and fresh linens filled Roshan's nostrils as he scrubbed in and prepared to witness the birth of his child. He felt a sense of trepidation mixed with excitement as he took his place beside Mira. The next few hours passed in a haze of beeping machines, whispered conversations, and the occasional cry of "Push!" Roshan held Mira's hand, feeling her grip tighten with each contraction. And then, suddenly, the baby was born. Roshan's heart swelled with emotion as he gazed at the tiny, squirming form. He felt a sense of wonder and awe wash over him, followed by a wave of fear and uncertainty. But as he held the baby in his arms for the first time, Roshan's doubts and fears came flooding back. What if he wasn't ready for this? What if he couldn't provide for the baby? Just as he was about to spiral into anxiety, something shifted inside him. He looked into the baby's eyes, and for a moment, everything else faded away. In that instant, Roshan felt a sense of clarity wash over him. He realized that he didn't have to be perfect; he just had to be present. He didn't have to have all the answers; he just had to be willing to learn. As he gazed at the baby, Roshan felt his doubts and fears melt away, replaced by a sense of purpose and responsibility. He knew that he would do everything in his power to protect and provide for this tiny human being. "I'm going to be a good father," Roshan whispered, his voice filled with conviction. Mira smiled, her eyes shining with tears. "I know you will," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. But just as they were basking in the joy of their new family, the doctor's voice cut through the moment. "I'm afraid we need to run some more tests," the doctor said, his expression serious. "The baby's oxygen levels are a bit low, and we need to make sure everything is okay." Roshan's heart skipped a beat as he felt a surge of worry. "What does that mean?" he asked, trying to keep his voice steady. The doctor reassured him that it was just a precaution, but Roshan couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. He watched as the medical team whisked the baby away for further tests, feeling a sense of helplessness wash over him. Mira, sensing his anxiety, reached out and took his hand. "Everything will be okay," she said, her voice soft and soothing. "We just need to be patient and trust the doctors." Roshan nodded, trying to focus on Mira's words. But as he looked around the hospital room, he couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. The shadows seemed to loom larger, and the beeping of the machines seemed to take on a more ominous tone. He pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on Mira and the baby. But the sense of unease lingered, refusing to be shaken.
