Chapter 4: The Day Destiny Smiled People say that life never remains the same forever. As I mentioned before, I still have the Girigo app on my phone, and strange, unexpected things have always happened to me. Even the wishes I make casually, without much thought, often seem to come true. One day, while cleaning my room, I found an old diary from 2015. Someone had given it to me years ago. Along with it, I found an old pen that I had started using again in 2025. At that time, my family constantly struggled with our water supply. The tap rarely worked, and we faced the same problem over and over again. Out of curiosity, I opened the diary and wrote the word "Thank you" twenty times. Beneath it, I wrote: "I wish water would start flowing from our tap, and I hope this problem is solved forever." To my surprise, the very next day, the water supply started again. I couldn't believe it. How could something change within just twenty-four hours? I wondered if it was only a coincidence. Then, unexpectedly, my family decided to replace the motor connection and install a separate one. Within a month, the entire water problem had been resolved. I was overjoyed. I thought, What if I try again? My second wish also came true. After that, I began making wishes related to K-pop idols, pairing people together simply for fun. Some of the pairings I imagined included Jungwon and Yeonjun, Soobin and Zhang Hao, Tomoya and Hyui, Shinyu and Hanjin, Dohoon and Hanjin, Gyuvin and Hanjin, So Geon and Hyui, and Heeseung and Sunoo, along with many others. I won't mention every name. I even tried the same idea while watching a Chinese dating show. Whether those imagined couples ever became real, I don't know, but somewhere inside me, I believed they eventually would. At one point, I also wished that Zhang Hao and Sung Hanbin would one day belong to different groups. Later, that happened too. I had also prayed for my older sister's marriage. For some reason, I always believed that boys whose names began with the letter "N" were especially loyal. So I wished that my sister would meet someone whose name started with N. Everything I had wished for came true. However, I realized that I had forgotten to ask for something even more important—his character. That was my mistake. So I prayed again, asking that he would be hardworking, wise, deeply loyal, and free from bad habits or unhealthy relationships, because more than anything, I wanted my sister to live a happy life. Sometimes I wonder why so many of my wishes seem to be fulfilled, yet I couldn't pass the government job examinations. Perhaps the answer is simple. Maybe I never truly wanted that life. Deep inside, I only wanted to become rich without being trapped in a routine job. More than anything else, I dreamed of becoming a successful YouTuber. Sometimes another thought troubles me. If someone makes a wish that causes another person's death—and if that wish actually comes true—would that make the person who made the wish dangerous? In 2025, I once caught myself imagining what my cousin's house would look like if my cousin disappeared forever. Later, my cousin passed away. I still miss them. Even now, I don't know whether that thought meant anything at all, or whether it was simply a painful coincidence that I have never been able to forget. Then I suddenly realized something. I had spent so much time wishing for others. When would I finally wish for myself? Although I had downloaded the Girigo app long before, I had never gathered the courage to use it. One day, I finally opened it. Some time afterward, I developed what seemed like an ordinary cough. The next day, I took medicine. Instead of getting better, my condition worsened. The cough became more severe. Then came headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, chest pain, aching legs, vomiting, and difficulty breathing. Almost every day, a new symptom appeared. More than a month passed, and I was still sick. For the first time, I couldn't stop wondering whether everything was simply a coincidence... or whether something else was happening that I couldn't understand.
