Chapter Thirty-Six
“Take a breath, and tell me what happened.” Holbeck crossed around her desk to sit on the edge right in front of me.
“I heard”―I choked on my tears―“I knew people were mad at me for working with Project Progeny. I was just trying to help and prove that I want the Incorporation to succeed. But the Domes Council decided I couldn’t keep my sister with me anymore. They said it would be better if she lived with our guardian.”
I took a breath, trying to replace the anger in my tone with fear.
“Yesterday, I went to try and see her at our guardian’s, just to say goodnight.” I swiped the tears from my cheeks. “They wouldn’t let me near her. I could hear her screaming for me from inside the house, and the Dome Guard made me leave without seeing her.”
