Thursday: Meet & Great (Acoustic Performance - "Dark As Day")
Location: FYE Washington DC
Time: 7pm
Our itinerary was set for the day; I slept well since we had had two meet & greets and a performance the day before. John was sure to email us around 11am each day, so the day's itinerary was not a surprise. Sophie and I had a good routine with communication so I could keep I touch with the boys. I picked up my iPhone and called through FaceTime.
"Hi Daddy!" Bas squealed with delight.
"Hi buddy!"
"Hey Daddy," Lennon said. "I'm working on my spelling."
"Is it going well?"
"Yep."
The attitude on this kid, I couldn't help but chuckle. "Bas, did you color a picture to send Gramma?"
"Yes, daddy! I'm going to show you," he ran to grab it off the counter.
"Hey, Soph," I said as she sat at the table next to the boys.
"Hello! Are you in DC today?"
"Yep, John sent you our schedule huh?" I grinned.
"Yes." She answered.
Bas held up his picture of birds for my mother. He couldn't wait to ship it to Florida for her birthday. Of course, I was paying for a cruise for two to the Bahamas for her also, but nonetheless, she would love a handmade gift from her grandson.
Wendy walked through the kitchen and asked the boys if they wanted to play but noticed I was there too, so she excused herself. We talked a little more about their plans for the day and I promised to call them later. Sophie said goodbye and ended the call.
______
Sophie's POV
I immediately regretted not telling Alexander about my plans to see Harry the next day. We both felt comfortable with Wendy alone with the boys, so I didn't think it was necessary. It was just for a few hours, right?
I took the opportunity to pick out what I was going to wear to see Harry. I found a nice long, blue & white maxi skirt, a white tank top, a dark blue denim jacket, then decided my white Toms would match well.
In the playroom, Wendy was involved in a serious game of Go Fish with the boys. I sat on the couch and watched as they counted their matches. Lennon won and then asked if he could play some Minecraft which I okayed. Bas wanted to play on his iPad. I asked Wendy to help me with lunch in the kitchen.
"I know you normally have a short day on Friday, but some last minute plans came up," I said cautiously. "Would you mind watching the boys in the latter half of the day? You could take the morning off - I shouldn't be back too late, but I would really appreciate it."
She looked at me as she poured the broth into the pot. I had no idea what she was thinking when she took a deep breath.
"That shouldn't be a problem," she started. "I know it's not my business, but are you going to see- ?" she stopped herself and finished chopping the carrots.
I felt my cheeks warm, but I kept my eyes on the chicken I was shredding. It really wasn't her business.
"Of course, I will pay you overtime," I glanced at her.
Her brows narrowed as she thought about it. "Sure, I will be here." she finally responded.
I felt so sneaky, which wasn't like me. I wondered if I should ask her not to mention it to Alexander, but I had a feeling that she wouldn't.
I sent a quick text to Harry - who was already stateside - and told him I could meet him at The Manhattan around 6pm Friday.
