You never told me when you like it fast—"
The words had barely left Adams' lips when the bedroom door violently slammed open.
Adrian stood in the frame,. His eyes darkened instantly as they swept over the nakedness of the bed. The air in the room turned to absolute ice. Before either of them could move, Adrian turned around, grabbing the edge of the door, and slammed it shut behind him with a deafening thud that shook the entire wall.
Adams scrambled backward, throwing his legs off the bed, his face pale with a physical terror. "You... you know him?"
Lena didn't answer immediately, her chest heaving as she gripped the edges of her towel. Suddenly, a sharp notification cut through the silence. Adams’ phone lit up as he snatched it, his eyes stretching wide as he read the notification on the screen.
Contract Canceled.
The phone nearly slipped from his trembling fingers. He gasped, turning to Lena with panic twisting his face . "He just canceled my contract... the one to make me the most popular musician in the country and meeting with all the top-tier..
Lena trembled instantly, her throat dry. "You know him?"
Adams went quiet for a moment as he squeezed his eyes shut, forcing a tear to spill over his cheek. "I think he did this because of you... He made me who I am today. He... he is my boss." He lunged forward, desperately grabbing Lena’s hands. "You have to help me, Lena. You have to. My mother... she’s undergoing a kidney transplant, and the medical bills are massive."
He burst into a heavy sob, his shoulders shaking as Lena stared down at his face. Adams gently wiped at his wet eyes, shifting closer to hold her knees.
"Please, Lena. You have to help me because I know he did this because of you..."
Lena breathed in heavily, her gaze burning into him. "Your mother? Since when?"
Adams dropped his forehead against the edge of the mattress, his voice muffled. "Since I stole your song... She was the main reason I did it. I needed the money, and now I just wanted to hit it big to save her. This... this contract was everything."
Lena stared at the top of his head for a long, quiet moment. The anger she held for his past betrayal didn't vanish, but the thought of his mother shattered her defenses. She slid out of bed, walked over to her wardrobe, and pulled out a fresh gown. She slipped it on quickly before turning back to him.
"I will try," she said, her voice tight, "but I can't promise anything, Adams. I am only doing this because of your mother and how good she has always been to me. You know how much I love her, even though you misbehaved."
Adams forced himself up, rushing to her side to clasp her hands in his. He nodded frantically, his entire body vibrating with relief. "Thank you, Lena. Thank you."
Lena turned and walked out of the room, Adams following closely behind her.
By the time Lena reached the studio estate, the sky had turned a deep dark. It was already late in the night. As she entered the lit corridor, she heard the sharp click of a key turning in a lock—someone was closing up for the night.
Adrian walked out of his main office, his jacket slung over his shoulder. He rounded the corner and bumped straight into Lena.
"Why did you cut your contract with Adams?" Lena demanded the moment her eyes locked onto his dark face.
Adrian paused for a second, his expression unreadable. He didn't answer. He simply looked right through her, turned back to the door, and continued inserting the key to lock up. Lena stepped closer, her anger flaring, and forcefully pushed his shoulder away from the door. The keys slipped from his fingers, slamming violently onto the floor.
"What do you want?" she asked, her voice shaking as she glared up at him.
Adrian went perfectly still. He slowly turned his head to look down at her. "And what do you think you are? His savior?"
"Come on, Adrian. You never liked me, and I don't like you either," Lena screamed, stepping into his space. "Why then did you cut off everything with Adams just because you saw him with me?"
Adrian scoffed as a cruel smirk playing on his lips. "I don’t like hawks."
