Thankfully, Seraphina entered into DarkSlade's Enterprise and the CEO wasn't in his office. The man she spilled coffee on plus the receptionist she met at the entrance of the company made her morning so frustrating and annoying.
Before she got in, the receptionist eyed her dress, "None of your peasants boyfriend works here."
Boyfriend? Peasants? Seraphina rolled her eyes. Of course, she is mocking her dress.
She narrowed her eyes "My name is Seraphina Lightwood. I'm the current secretary to the CEO."
She scoffed. "You can't be. Our company is professional and.. and we couldn't have hired someone like you."
Seraphina wasn't in the mood for long talks and exchange of words. She brought out her work ID card and showed it to the receptionist rendering her speechless.
Seraphina walked out of there. "What a b***h!"
Arriving in her office, she glanced around. "Nice. Much more than I expected." She made herself comfortable on the chair.
Before she could get too relaxed, the landline to her office rings loudly enough to make Seraphina frown.
She puts the phone to her ear. "Hello, Good day."
"Yes," the voice says. "I believe I'm talking to ehm... Seraphina Lightwood? The new secretary?"
"Yes, sir.. you are."
"Ok, I'm Mr.David. The Manager of the company and I will guide you on what and what not to do here. Understood?"
Seraphina nods "Yes, sir. I understand perfectly."
"Very good. Now, I want you to grab a pen and a work diary. Get them ready. As the CEO's secretary, you will have to attend meet and greet sessions and equally take notes on important decisions that will be taken in every meeting. Don't worry too much. I know you are new and most things here might overwhelm you but I trust you will adapt easily. So don't be under pressure, okay?"
Seraphina was clearly surprised at the tone he used in talking to her. Such a calm and gentle speaking man working under the den of wolves.. bad wolves. She sighs. "Don't you worry, sir. I will ensure I do my best. Thank you for the kind words."
"Very well then. Get ready. The CEO will arrive in two hours. Get your things and meet me at the hall."
Confused, she asked. "Hall?"
"Oh, yes. I forgot to tell you the most important reason I called. The CEO and the finance manager will be coming to meet all newly employed staff of the company. Like I said, don't be nervous or under pressure."
With that he ended the call.
"Well, that's new. " Seraphina says to no one in particular. She heard that the CEO never meets anyone besides important people. Most times, secretaries don't report directly to him. But now he wants to meet every single new employee?
She wonders why.
In a way, it is good if he starts showing himself , that way, she would have a lot of time to observe him more.
After thinking for a while, Seraphina arranges her office and puts things in the ways she likes. The office was too much in order and Seraphina wasn't a fan of much orderliness in a particular place. Yes, she is an assassin who is supposed to likely be the most ordered person on the planet but then, what's the fun in that?
After she's done with everything, she smiles at her new office. It's to her liking.
An hour later, she walks out of her office with her work diary, a pen and her recording device to write down and record every detail. The recording device was important in case she misses something while writing.
Soon, she reached the hall where the session will take place.
She stood in awe, gazing up at the marble walls which gleamed like polished jewels, reflecting the soft glow of crystal chandeliers. The hum of cutting-edge technology and the quiet confidence of employees moving with purpose through the space left her breathless. This was a company that exuded power, innovation, and limitless possibility.
The podium in the hall had dice and some chairs and a very large glass table in front of it. Some water bottles, coffee and exquisite snacks were placed there.
The hall is pleading to be filled with people. From the corner of her eyes, she sees Amara doing her job perfectly by mingling and talking with some colleagues. Seraphina smiles to herself. She knows Amara and how much she dislikes gossip. She hates associating with people so much, especially those who talk without sense.
She looks around and sees Mr. David on the stage setting up somethings. She doesn't need to see his picture to know what he probably would look like. Just by his voice, Seraphina could already picture him and her instincts were always right.
He turns on seeing her. His eyebrow raises up as if trying to recall where he had seen her before. "Ahh, secretary, no?"
She nods, "Yes, sir."
He smiles. "Punctual..I like that. Alright, I will need you to handle that part.” He pointed. “Aria here isn't doing exactly what I asked her to. I will need you to assist her." After saying that he left hurriedly.
She turns to Aria and of course, the universe hates her today. It was the receptionist. Aria frowns with a scorning expression.
After managing to complete a simple but hectic task, Seraphina finally sits in the third row ready for taking the notes and meeting the mysterious CEO. There is no media and mobile phones too were prohibited. It dawned on Seraphina why no one outside the company has ever seen his face.
After about twenty minutes, the noisy hall suddenly became quiet and multiple heavy footsteps could be heard. They sounded heavy and powerful.
Seraphina anticipates that they have arrived. She turns on the recorder and sits straight.
All the new employees looked towards the entrance, they were above forty people in the hall. Seraphina involuntarily looks in that direction. Time to meet the Supreme Alpha and King to the Lycanthropes and werewolves.
What she sees makes the anticipation on her face change.
As the door opens, several powerful people walk in, but Seraphina's eyes are focused on only one man. His imposing figure commanded attention, chiseled features etched with authority and power. He looks and walks like a King. Why does he look familiar?
Seraphina asked internally. She waits until he comes closer before observing him well. Those golden eyes. On realizing where she must have seen him, her eyes widened. The universe must be joking with her again.
"I'm so screwed." Her subconscious mocked and she couldn't help but agree more. Being screwed was an understatement. If Mr. Cartwright knew that she blew up this mission all because of her sharp mouth and fierce personality.. he would be so upset and mad at her.
The CEO has to be everybody in this world but this grumpy rich ass? He has changed his suit from the coffee-stained one to yet another expensive one.
Suddenly, their eyes meet and he stops.
"Oh, no!" Seraphina mutters. She should try to hide and not stare at him openly. But she just couldn't help it. His gaze and intoxicating allure drew her in with an irresistible force. Her eyes left his and travelled to his well-built physique that is hidden under his tailor-made suit. No one needed to tell her that hidden under this suit must be a very sinful body.
She glances away, shocked at how her body was reacting to him. Her heart, pulse, lungs everything is beating so wildly. Her blood is running at a speed of 100km.
"What is wrong with me?" She wondered.
Everyone sits back in their respective seats when the CEO reaches the podium and starts to speak. But Seraphina's whole concentration wasn't on what he was saying. It was on him. His face, his voice, those irresistible eyes. His pink full kissable lips.
Seraphina got pulled out of her trance when someone snapped fingers at her repeatedly.
"Don't you dare look at him that way, you peasant." Aria arrogantly rolls her eyes.
Seraphina bit her lips, trying not to utter a snarky response. Her chances of working in this company have already been reduced by half if Mr. CEO decides to take her pouring coffee on him to heart. Knowing she shouldn't make this any worse than it already is, she chose not to respond to Aria.
“I need to succeed in this mission. I must.”
If not for anything, but for those they've hurt. Those innocent girls amongst many others.
