Inside the presidential suite where Kael was still recovering, the sun had risen but he refused to let the light in. His mood for the past one week reflected the darkness in the room.
"Roran, Lucien." He mind linked his Beta and gamma, ignoring the fact that Sage was seated right next to him with fruits in her hand and a smile on her face.
"Yes, Supreme alpha," they answered in unison.
"Get in here now!"
Saying that, he stood up from the bed, stretching his back.
Sage's lustful eyes followed every movement. "How are you doing today, babe?"
Kael didn't glance at her. There was a knock on the door and by their scent, Kael knew who they were. "Come in."
"Woah, man. It's dark in here." Lucien grumbled. "What are you, a vamp?"
Sage hissed in displeasure at the blabber mouth Lucien. That's when he turned to where she was seated and frowned on seeing her. They had never gotten along with each other.
"Is the poison all gone now, Kael?" Roran asked, shutting the door before walking a few steps into the room.
Kael nodded with a frown. "Any news?"
"About the demons, yes. Indeed, it turns out that the club was a hideout for most of the demons. We found many weapons they've been storing in there and.. " Roran paused, his face tight. He brought out his phone and passed it to Kael. ".. it turns out they were using humans as food. "
Kael's jaw ticked when he saw the horrific images of human bones and skulls scattered across a room. "They are getting bolder, I see. How much of them were hiding there? "
Lucien cleared his throat. "Uncountable, Kael. They were uncountable but we didn't spare any of them. The rate at which they are multiplying is getting alarming and very serious. I'm afraid a war is brewing soon. "
"Just like they warned." Kael said.
" Who?!" The trio looked at Kael with questions in their eyes.
Kael sighed, then turned to look at Roran again. His mind thought about something else. "Did you find her?"
Kael's question made Sage's eyes widened and she got up from the bed.
"Find who, Kael?" She asked and held his hand to kiss it. Trying to hide the hint of jealousy that flashed in her eyes.
Lucien looked like he would throw up soon and he couldn't help but say, "Kael's mate." He felt satisfied to see how her face dropped.
Sage was speechless. She held her breath, trying to control her emotions. All she could do was keep a fake smile on her face.
Kael finally looked at her. He disengaged his hands from hers not even hiding the expression of disgust on his face. "Sage, give us some privacy."
He didn't ask politely. He never did.
She turned to look from Lucien to Kael. She signed and bent down to pick her bag from the bedside table. She walked towards Kael, standing on her toes, she pecked him on the cheek and smiled but as usual Kael never reciprocated. Even when they had s*x many times before, there was never any show of love or passionate kisses from him. It was just rough s*x to satisfy his needs, not hers.
Sage did not kind. It never hurt her feelings. It was a beneficial relationship. She loves being with him and she enjoys the benefits of being the only woman who he sleeps with even though she knows he does not love her.
But why does it feel different today? It felt as if a knife had been stabbed to her chest, knowing that he is close to finding his mate. 'I thought he was cursed to never have a mate.' she said internally. 'Whoever the f**k you are. Kael is mine and I am the future Luna of this pack. Always.'
Before she leaves, she glances back at Lucien. He couldn't hide his joy. With his hands in his pockets, he smiled mockily at her. She clenched her fists.
Getting her cool back, she faces Kael, smiling brightly. "I bought some lingerie. The kind I know you love. It will help you relax. For the past one week, you've looked a little tense..and I don't like that." She whispered sexily in his ears, before blowing him a kiss. As she walked out of the room, she swung her curvy hips in a way that would drive any man sexually insane.
Riran sighed, looking at Sage trying so hard to please Kael. "You know, you've got to tell her to stop all these before she gets too obsessed with you. It might be very late soon. She's so..."
"Shameless." Lucien finished.
Roran sighed, "I didn't want to say shameless..."
Lucien rolled his eyes. "It's the truth, man and it's disgusting. Kael, you can have any woman in this pack of werewolves and lycanthropes. There are many pretty girls, much prettier and of course sexier than Sage. I don't get why you even choose her to be by your side."
Kael's aura oozed out. His jaw ticked out of annoyance. "Answer my damn question." His voice roared, laced with anger from his agitated wolf.
They bowed. "Sorry, Supreme Alpha."
Turning serious, Lucien says, "The search team reported that they didn't see her."
"I already know that. Any new reports."
"Something happened after we came to the hospital. Well, the following morning they reported that a woman drowned near the river. But..."
Kael's patience was wearing thin. "But what..."
"But before our men could get to her, she was already rescued and they searched every hospital in Nashville city for her. There was no record of a female victim coming into the hospital from drowning especially at that period of time. There's only one summary to it all. Whoever she's working for is sending us a message. They don't want us to find out about her and they must be dangerous."
Kael smirked, his eyes sharp. He nodded. "Let's see about that.”
