Angel of Death

Cassandra POV I tried to reach out for the girl's hand, but it's no use as her warm fingers touch mine, electricity runs through my body. My head spins, and I can't see anything around me. When I catch my bearings, a man is pulling my arm, "Mariel, this is dangerous. Your powers are unchecked," He yanks my arm hard. I try to get my bearing straight, not understanding what happened. As the man pulls me towards him, I look over my shoulder, horrified to see I am lying on the ground in front of the car. "Get your hands off of me!" I tried to pull away from the strange man who had a tight grip on my arm. He sighed and rolled his eyes, placing his hand over my forehead as he recited some other language. My eyes flickered, and I grew heavy, and I could no longer hold them open anymore. I woke up in a strange place and panicked. That man must have kidnapped me somehow. I jumped off the large bed and ran towards the door. I would not escape one terror to be brought to another. Surprisingly the door opened without a problem. I peeked my head around the corner but didn't see anyone there. I will make my escape now while I can. As I walked through the door, something kept getting stuck, and I turned around to see beautiful white wings on my back. I ran towards the large mirror and gasped when I saw my face. The girl from earlier, but how? "Mariel?" A knock sounds at the door. That must be her name. is this heaven then? Where am I? Do I have Angelic powers, and how did we switch bodies? I remember looking back and seeing my body lying on the street. Is Mariel in my body? "Yes?" I said. The door opened, and a man walked in. He looked at me and ran his hand through his long blonde hair, "Why did you go there?" I have never met this man before, but somehow I know his name is Gabriel. "Gabriel, what of the girl?" "I'm sorry, but she didn't make it. Mariel, why would you go into the past like that?" "Into the past?" I need to figure out as much information as I can from him. "When I gave you your father's necklace, I should have been more honest with you. I only wanted you to have it. You're old enough to know the truth now," Gabriel put his hand on me, and it felt soothing. "I agree," I said, needing to understand this Angel who somehow gave her life for mine. "Your father isn't away on a secret mission. He died ten years ago. The necklace took you to the day of his death and the place," Gabriel sighed. "But how? "It's his last memory. We don't know, though, who killed him. You know the rules. We are not allowed to change destiny in such a way. Any information we get must come naturally. That was the order from the top. I promise you though we will find out how just never go there again," "I don't even understand how I did?" I shrugged. "I told you never to read the words from the back. You won't be able to do it again, though," He said the past. Did that mean I am in a different time now? "You said I went to the past," "Yes, you went ten years into the past. I had to pull you back out of there. You must not interfere with destiny and change things. Your actions could have done a lot of damage. I know you want something to do, so I will make you a deal," He sighed, giving me a smile. "Yes, tell me what I can do," I played along with him. "I will take you down to Earth. We have a headquarters there. You can train to be a guardian Angel, but you must obey all orders from your mentor," his handsome face turned up to me, eyebrows raised at me. "I can do that," I smiled. I know eventually, they will figure out I am not Mariel, and it's best I am somewhere I'm familiar with. "We will go today, so prepare all your scrolls. You will need to learn to blend in as a human," Gabriel leaned over me, and I flinched, jumping back at his closeness to me. "Mariel, what is wrong with you?" Gabriel demanded, seeing my reaction. "Sorry. I'm still a little skittish from earlier, I guess," I lied. He regarded me with his clear blue eyes and said, " You haven't been down there in years. I imagine it's a lot to take in," I smiled at him being careful not to give myself away too much. I kept my words at a minimum, "Yea, I guess so," "Well, grab your scrolls and put those wings away. I will just beam us. Remember to blend in at all times," Gabriel warned. The only problem is I have no idea how to put the wings away. I tried thinking about them going away, but that didn't work. I don't know how much longer until he figures out I'm not Mariel anymore. "I think I'm still shaken up. It's not working," I sighed, hoping he would tell me the way to do it. "Mariel, you haven't even uttered the words used to conceal them. This is not like you at all. I understand that you are shaken up from your experience down there, but you must remember your studies. Garioch is one of the simplest words to remember," Gabriel, who once seemed patient, is fed up with me too. "Galoch," I said, repeating his words, and my wings finally concealed themselves somehow. That's a mystery for later. For now, I need to get him to take me to Earth, "Sorry I said it in my head the first time, I thought," "That doesn't always work. You must utter the ancient words," Gabriel stood up and walked toward the Iron door, "We will leave in ten minutes. Grab your scrolls," When he left, I sighed in relief. I don't know how I pulled this off. I have a second chance at life and a chance for revenge. I can't let him discover what really happened. I still have no idea what he means by scrolls, but I search around the room until I find a drawer with what looks to be like scrolls in it. I grabbed a backpack and put the scrolls inside of it, and waited for him to return for me. "What's in the bag?" Gabriel eyed the gray backpack carefully. "The scrolls you said for e to get," He laughed, "I sometimes forget you haven't been down there in so long. Let me see the bag," Gabriel reached his long pale hand out for the bag, and I passed it to him. he peered inside, a confused look on his face, "Did you bring every scroll I gave you? I did sort of just take them all out and dump them in the bag. I need to think quickly, "You said I need to study the languages more," He regarded me a moment, and I thought for sure he could see right through me, but he said, "Fine, but you must conceal them upon arrival at the Angel Compound," I giggled when he said Angel Compound and wondered what this place would be like, "Of course," I said, smiling, knowing I have no idea how to even do that. "We will port down together. Grab onto me," Gabriel said as I grabbed onto his arm. I felt bad lying to an Angel, but at the moment, I see no other choice. It was like a blink of an eye, and we are standing in the middle of a large room. "Gabriel and Mariel, it's so good to see you," a woman, I assume, is an Angel approached us. Her chestnut curls bounce as she leans forward and hugs me, "I haven't seen you since you were small," That's good. Maybe she won't know Mariel's habits or what she knows. "It's good to be here," I smiled at her. "I'm so glad my brother finally decided to bring you down here with us. It will advance your studies and power much more," "Plus, Raquel is a female Angel and maybe better able to relate to you," Gabriel sighed. "Yea, sorry about that. It's so rare a female is born among our kind. Don't worry, though. I will teach you right. Let me show you to your room, then you can look around the Compound," Raquel smiled. The room was silent as we walked towards the steps except for the click of Raquels black high heels. I followed her up the winding gold-colored staircase into a long hallway. We walked down it and turned right when she stopped in front of a door, "This will be your room," "Thank you," I smiled at her. "Now remember, Mariel, stay on the property for now until Raquel tells you that it's okay to go out. I need to go over some other business with her before leaving. If you need me, just call me," Gabriel kissed me on the cheek then walked away. I know that really means he is going to take her off to the side and talk about me, but I don't care. I need to find a place to put this bag or somehow figure out the magic word to conceal it. Then I can work on finding Mr. Miller. I shut the door behind me and took in the beautiful room. These Angels sure do know how to decorate, but where do they get these massive beds from? They must be custom made, and why would I even need a bed this large? I laid the backpack on the cream-colored comforter and stared at it a moment. About the only experience, I have with anything Magical comes from Harry Potter. Sadly I haven't been able to watch the last few movies. Mr. Miller didn't allow me to go out but to school and back. I did manage to borrow the books from the school library, though. "Conceleo," I pointed at the backpack then laughed. Deep down, I knew that wasn't going to work, but I figured why not try it. I sighed and sat down on the bed. I'm pretty sure the word is likely from that Angelic language. I will have to hide it under the bed until I somehow manage to learn the right word. I picked up the backpack and bent over to put it under the bed. When I stood up, I backed up to see if it could be seen from a distance, somehow when I bumped into something hard. I turned around to come face to face with a gorgeous man with a smirk on his face, "Who are you? This is my room?" I hoped the male Angels didn't have the bright idea of just walking in when they pleased like this. "Cassandra Wright, date of death April first in the year of two thousand and ten. Cause of death is...." he reached out for me, and I jumped back instinctively, making him barely miss me. "Stop it!" I gasped. How could he know? "Who are you?" I whispered. I can feel myself break inside once again. I was stupid to think I could start over and be a different, stronger person. The false sense of hope I built within me shattered, but before the last piece fell, something within me decided to give it one last try. It's that same sense of hope I clung to each time Mr. Miller hit me. I told myself soon he would tire out or pass out drunk if only I can make it through until then. "The Angel of Death," He said. "Please, just give me some time," I pleaded. He regarded me with his green eyes a moment before saying, "Tell me why?" Tears fell down my face, something that bothers me more than I like to admit, "Because this had to have happened for a reason. I must have a purpose here. Mariel didn't give me this body for nothing," He moved closer until he's inches away, and I am very aware of how attractive he is. The Angel wipes a tear from my eye gently, then licks his finger. Odd! "You're right," he said so softly. I can barely hear him. I wrap my arms around him, overcome with joy that he will let me live, for now.
