Chapter 3
Emily peeked into the shop and caught a glimpse of Tyrant heading toward the rear of the boutique. Shoot! What was Tyrant doing back already when she was supposed to be out? Emily hadn’t even wasted any time grabbing the coffee and her takeaway lunch, and had stashed both in the lunch bag she now carried.
Tyrant was the only one who could have the shop’s closed sign hanging from the entrance and mainly for one reason only—there was a very important client she was attending to.
This wasn’t good. How was Emily going to sneak the coffee in? There was no employee side door—all entrances and exits happened through the main sliding doors. The coffee was growing cold, Nancy was waiting, and Emily still had to eat lunch, and she couldn’t wait till Tyrant was done with the client, since she had no idea when that would be. She’d seen client sessions range from fifteen minutes to two hours. Her break was going to be over soon, and Tyrant might dock her pay if she wasn’t back on time.
She would have to go in silent as a mouse, especially since she had to bypass the client lounge area on her way to the break room. Hopefully, Tyrant would be occupied with the client and ignore her.
Emily stepped through the sliding doors into the shop. Yikes! Who had wiped the floor again? She’d cleaned it about an hour ago, and the next cleanup wasn’t due anytime soon. She guessed Tyrant had insisted on it for this client.
Bad idea. What if the client tripped and fell? The marble floor had a tendency to do that in the first few minutes after it was cleaned. Good thing Emily had mastered walking on it.
Well she had to get going. Emily took a deep breath. She could do this. All she had to do was be careful.
What could possibly go wrong?
