Chapter 2: Forbidden Love

317 Words
In the following weeks, Harper and Mason continued to grow closer as they rehearsed for the play. They would often grab coffee or lunch together during their breaks, talking endlessly about everything under the sun. Harper was constantly in awe of Mason's acting skills, and she found herself getting lost in the way he portrayed Romeo on stage. It was as if he truly loved and adored Juliet in that moment, and Harper couldn't help but feel envious of the character. One day, after a particularly grueling rehearsal, Harper and Mason were walking to their cars when Mason grabbed her hand and pulled her to a stop. "Harper, there's something I need to tell you," Mason said, his voice low. "I know we've only known each other for a short time, but I can't help the way I feel." Harper felt her heart rate rise, and she knew exactly what was coming. "I like you, Harper. More than just friends. I don't know if you feel the same, but I really hope you do," Mason continued, his eyes searching her face. Harper felt tears stinging at the corners of her eyes as she processed Mason's confession. She had known for a long time that she was falling for him but hearing him say it out loud was something else entirely. "I like you too, Mason," Harper said, her voice trembling slightly. "I don't know where this is going, but I want to give it a chance.” Mason let out a sigh of relief, and they both smiled at each other, feeling a weight lifted off their shoulders. From that moment on, Harper and Mason were inseparable. They would often stay up late rehearsing lines and running scenes together, lost in their own little love story. Mason would often surprise Harper with small gifts and romantic gestures, and she felt like she was living in a dream.
