Chapter 3 THE MISSING PART "This is not what I ordered!! Take it back immediately!" I was stuck in my spot, I was very sure this was what she had ordered, I never messed up orders, "but ma'am…" I tried to get her attention but her hard gaze sent me shivering. "Are you deaf?! I said take it back!" And she threw her water at me, the ruckus caused my boss to run to the rescue. "Eva what is going on?!" He was panting, he was very out of shape. "I told her that this isn't my order and she is here arguing with me! What happened to customers is always right?!" "Eva, take it back immediately!" He screamed at me and I scurried back into the kitchen. I sniffed back my tears and thought about it a lot, ever since I left, I was treated horribly, even worse by humans. Soon my boss came in to talk to me, "Never argue with the customers, give them whatever they want. It's almost closing, you should leave and get rest, do not repeat this mistake." He was right, soon it was 7 pm and I was the first to grab my things and head home. Today was not the best day for me and there was so much on my mind. I remembered I had to get new books for the boys. I took another path and headed to the store and soon I was out with a white plastic bag. Ever since I left the pack, I had to fend for myself. My pregnancy was the hardest thing I faced but luckily I came out alive. And I gave birth to triplets. All boys. They've been my life since and now I was going back home to them. I reached the door to my apartment, it was small but enough for a single mother of three. I took the set of keys from my bag and when I swung open the door, I was greeted with a pile of huge mess and three hyperactive kids jumping on furniture, pretending the floor was lava. "Paul, Peter, Philip!!" They froze in the air before crashing to the floor, the floor was no longer lava but the house was a big mess and I was disappointed. "Yes mom!" They answered in unison and scrambled to their feet to form a straight line, their hands behind their back and their gazes to the floor, "good evening mom." They greeted me. "What is this mess? Care to explain?" I had to keep calm or my blood pressure would shoot up. "It was Philip's idea!" The youngest quickly pointed at his elder brother and he had his infamous deadpan expression sprawled out on his face. "I agree with Peter, we were deceived." Paul supported calmly. "Well I don't care who started it, You're all cleaning this mess, now or no dinner." I stomped in and they scurried to clean the whole house, the boys couldn't risk their dinner for anything. It was chicken Alfredo today and it was their favorite. It was only 20 minutes and the house was not looking like an accident site anymore. They caused chaos together and also fixed it well together. This was my life, I would come back home to meet a mess and a bunch of cackling 10 year olds. There was never a full moment with them, they were always up to one mischief or the other. And it was a trait they took from their father. I was busy cooking in the kitchen as I heard them argue as to who started the mess, I found it adorable, they resembled their father too much and they were everything to me but they constantly reminded me of Damian. I missed Damian terribly but I know better than to go back. I would never go back to Damian, not even if it were to save my life. Dinner was ready and the boys settled around the table, but before they took their plates, they proceeded to kiss their mother on the cheek. "So how was your day, boys?".I asked as I poured myself some water. We were not rich but I worked hard enough to make us comfortable. "School was fun today, we went to the zoo and saw all sorts of animals, my favorite was the wolf." Peter chirped away, I smiled at him, I had raised them as humans and not wolves, they had no idea that they were werewolves but I could understand their attraction to their own kind. "And Philip fought a monkey. And lost." He took a happy slurp of his dinner and Paul was snickering at his older brother while Philip rolled his eyes. I found it a bit funny but didn't want to laugh, he has a terrible temper like his father, it was best not to invoke that. "Oh and mom, I also saw this kid with her dad and mom and they looked so happy." Peter started, "I…you…I mean…we don't know much about dad, it's just been us but I've been wondering a lot. What happened to dad? Why didn't he stay with us?" My past flashed in my eyes and soon my calmness was replaced with irritation as I remembered Damian, it was because of him that I had to suffer so much. "He doesn't matter, he never loved you and wanted you all dead, so consider him dead. Do not ever ask me about him again!" I lost my temper and my response had caused the atmosphere to dim. Peter was too sad to continue eating and started crying, he ran from the dining table and into his room, "Peter!" I called after him but he didn't listen. Paul runs after him to make sure his little brother was okay, I had done wrong. I didn't mean to hurt my child but my anger for Damian had caused me to lash out at Peter. I regretted my words more than ever now. "Way to go mom, it doesn't matter what happened, we love dad even if you don't." Philip left and I was alone at the dining table. I was alone again.
