Dangerous Women

1521 Words
Matthew’ s POV The brunette Charlotte is with does not look like a threat. She looks anything but dangerous. But I know better than to judge someone by how they look. She must be holding my sister captive. Yet I think I have seen her before. But where? A growl rumbles through my chest as I stalk towards her. The girl flinches, and takes a step back sensing the threat from me. I am about to capture her when Charlotte's little figure steps in front of her, as if guarding her. "No, stop!” she shouts in a confident voice, and I halt. My brows furrow. Why did she stop me? Charlotte moves back to the brunette, "She is my friend." She declares while holding her hand. I sigh, "Strangers are not friends, Lotte. You shouldn't trust anyone you meet." My voice comes out gentler in hopes of convincing her. Sometimes I forget that she is just a little kid. It must be because I have got used to her acting so calm and mature. Charlotte pouts, "Emma is not dangerous. She is a good person," she hugs the brunette's legs whose name is Emma. My gaze snaps at her, "What did you do to my sister? Did you try to brainwash her with your sweet words?” Emma's face turns pale, and she shakes her head, "No, no. Y-you got it wrong," Her legs tremble under my scrutiny. "I found her on the beach, and she was lost. So I brought her here." she raises her hands defensively, "Please trust me. I won't be so cruel to hurt a child. Actually, I love children." she keeps talking and a chuckle leaves my lips. I don't know why but I find it cute. "See? I told you. She's my friend," Lotte says with a smile, and my shoulders relax. "Come here." I walk closer, and she takes my hand. But my attention falls on Emma, who is now right before me. Her soft brown eyes meet mine, and I feel drawn towards them. She has a mole on the right side of her full, plump pink lips and her skin looks so fragile yet smooth like butter. Her chestnut brown hair is matted, but it does not take away from her beauty. As seconds pass by me mesmerized by her beauty, I start to realize why she looks so familiar. Her face—it is burned into my memory. She is the mate of the son of Alpha Davis from Moonshade Pack. Liam had bought me the intel on Alpha Davis's son Michael and that is when I saw her face printed as his fated mate. I remember the bitter feeling I had when I saw that she was his mate. 'Lucky bastard!' That's what I thought back then. She was so beautiful, I wanted her for myself. But it was just a ridiculous feeling, so I shrugged it off, yet I could not stop myself from thinking about her and feeling envious of Michael. And the same girl is standing before me now in the flesh. Why is she here? Did Alpha Davis send her to spy on us? "You are Emma Smith," I say, stepping into her personal space. It works as she feels intimidated by me, "Are you a spy from the Moonshade Pack?" "No, not at all. I have no reason to spy on you." I raise a brow, "That is something I cannot believe." "I am telling the truth. I am not here to spy on you." She looks like a little mouse trapped under me. "But you can. After all, you are Beta Smith's daughter and Michael's mate." Something changes in her eyes, and she looks away, "Michael rejected me, and my family doesn't want me anymore." She whispers. That is a big lie there. It is one of the most common lies spies use to get into their enemy's territory. Gaining sympathy is an effective strategy. But it won't work on me. "You can feed that story to someone else," I snarl, and she panics. "Why will he reject you?" My eyes do a once-over. No man in their right mind would reject a beauty like her. From the way she is, any guy would want to be with her. "No, it's the truth! I really got rejected today. It's because of my best friend's death." she responds, and her eyes glisten with tears. "Your best friend?" She nods, while looking distant, "She died yesterday. Or better to say, killed. She was driving me back to the pack, and I was drunk, so–so I did not remember what exactly happened but when I woke up, I saw a silver dagger stabbed onto her chest. " The tears start to roll down her eyes, "Everyone thinks I killed her, but I did not and Michael rejected me because Ava was his sister. When I met Charlotte on the beach, she seemed to know everything which is very strange. She is not from our pack, so I don't know how she got the information, but she told me things will be fine…" she keeps blabbering again, but I turn stiff when she mentions my sister. "Maybe your sister is special." She adds. How much does she know about Charlotte? If she knows a lot, then she will be a problem. Keep your friends close, your enemies closer. I need to keep an eye on her. I run my hand through my hair, "I can't believe a word that comes out of your mouth. Until I know that I can trust you, you are going to stay here." I turn to Liam, "Take her inside and tell Leah to arrange a room for her." Liam nods, "Yes, Alpha." A while later, I find Emma in the hallway of the packhouse. Clenching my fist, I walk up to her, "Whatever you are planning, you won't succeed." She turns stiff in my presence, "I told you before. I have no bad intentions. My pack hates me now." She argues. What concerns me is that she knows something about Charlotte. I don't know what Lotte told her, but Emma must have sensed that Lotte is special. If she tells this to anyone, my sister will be in danger. So it's better to keep her around me. "We will see about that. I will find out your motive soon," I give her a warning glance and walk away. Once I am at the end of the hallway, I walk upstairs and find Lotte in her room, the door to her room open. She was expecting me to come to her. I knock on the open door, and she looks up from the Harry Potter book she is holding. "Matt, come inside." she smiles, showing me her broken teeth and I step inside. Closing the door, I cross my arms. "You had me worried today," I tell her, and she slides down the bed. She walks over to me, and wraps her slender arms around my waist. "I am sorry. I needed some fresh air, and I did not want to tell you because you don't let me go anywhere," she looks up at me with her big apple green eyes that reminds me of our mother. I have the same eyes, but mine is darker. I sigh, and caress her head, "It's because I care about you. You know how much you mean to me." She bobs her little head, "I know. I am sorry. This won't happen again." "Pinky promise?" I ask. It's stupid for me to say childish things like these, but for Lotte, a pinky promise is something you can't break. So I need her to promise me. Her smile widens, and she shows me her pinky finger. It is not even half the size of my fingers, "Pinky promise!" I smile in satisfaction, and ruffle her hair, "Good." "But Matt, I need you to promise me something too," she says, and I frown. "What do you want me to promise?" "You won't behave badly with Emma." My jaw clenches on hearing her name. She has clearly brainwashed my sister like she was trying to feed me her lies. "Lotte, you don't understand—" "She saved me, Matt," Lotte adds, and my brows shoot up. "What?" She nods, "I wanted to play on the beach but there were these monster waves. I was drowning and she saved me." she finishes, and I am left shocked by the revelation. Emma did not mention it to me. "Please don't be rude to her. She is a nice person, and I like her." Her words make me think a little. Emma could have used this information to persuade me. But she did not. "Let Emma stay with us. Pretty please" Lotte pleads. Maybe she is not the threat I think she is, and her pack really misunderstands her. But it does not change the fact that she knows about my sister's abilities to some extent. "Alright, I promise you that she will stay with us for now.”
