THE TRUTH 3

Blaze POV: Zoe links me next, smiling at me while watching Ray. “She is perfect for you, Blaze.” “I know,” I replied to her while looking at Ray. “I see your hesitation and worries. I will tell you to be patient. You don’t have to feel so stressed, just enjoy your time with her.” She links me to try and comfort me. She has always been like a mother to us, but she says she is an aunt to all of us. We always talk to Zoe regarding personal stuff. She has the most genuine advice for us, no matter what. She never judges. And the way she is glaring at Luke. He is about to get scolded when we leave. I am sure of that. We said goodbyes after discussing our plans. Ray wanted to see the meadow. I realized she might like a picnic, so I told her I would be back in a second and ran back to Zoe. I asked Zoe’s help as I haven’t had a picnic ever with a girl and didn’t know what to take. “Zoe, ummm… can I ask a favor?” She smiles and gets to the point like always. She is just the best. “Do you want a picnic basket? I got one ready for you, seeing you wanted to go to the meadow.” She linked back smilingly at Aria who was hanging onto her dress. “Thank you so much. You are the best.” I kissed her chicks and ran out with the basket as soon as I spotted it. Ray is talking to Luke. He is going to scare her; he has an immense sense of people’s wants, and it’s hard to hide your desires from him. It’s a kind of Vampire snare, it’s his hidden power. Not many people know about it, they just think he is scary. He is the most terrifying person among all of us, as he can literally make you tell him anything without even trying. He has immense control over his snare so that he doesn’t do it unintentionally, but sometimes when he is agitated or anxious, he can’t control it. And nowadays, being anxious is his new normal. I tell her to get to the point, as he will say something completely inappropriate to her about her wants, scaring her more than necessary. She wants to learn to read and write, along with learning more about her heritage. I could help her, but I thought this would help Luke open up to her, so I stood there looking at their exchange. Luke simply tells her that he will help her if she decides to be our friend after listening to our side of the story. “Luke please, even if she hates me you have to help her. She will need a friend. You are the only one who is not involved in all this. And with everything going on, she might listen to you.” I linked him to try to plead her case. “I will do what I can. Don’t worry. But I needed her to know everything first. It’s bad finding out everything after you become friends. She won’t trust anyone if she thinks we kept stuff from her on purpose.” He tells me flatly. “I know, thank you.” We take our leave when Luke gets back to singing for the kids. They join him in a chaotic chorus. He will be a great father one day. I am sure of that. I inform everyone in case we have an emergency. “I am at the Meadow if you need anything. Please link me.” Stacey and Ritz replied first. “You enjoy your time; we have you covered.” Ritz links again, “Blake and I will be the closest if you need us. Don’t worry, she will like the meadow. I can feel your turmoil. Just relax.” “Ummm… I asked Zoe for a picnic basket, so I could just spend some time with her. And get to know her in real this time, not from afar.” I tell her nervously; I want some reassurance, and she will be honest with me if she thinks this is a stupid idea. “Aw... you are taking her on a picnic date. That’s just perfect. Just enjoy yourself.” She links back in a childish voice cooing at me as if I am a baby. Connor links next, “There is something you need to know. Will you talk to me first when you get back?” “Strange but ok.” “Roy is with me, so don’t worry. It’s nothing serious but ummm… well it’s really important.” “OK, be cryptic, we will talk later.” I informed Ray that I had informed everyone about where we were so we could relax. Thor truly understands the meaning of it. “You will know if she was scared of you. And she is not scared.” “Thanks, Thor. I wanted her to know she is safe, and I am not taking her somewhere to do something.” “You are a good human, Blaze. But boy, you are stupid.” “Shut up Thor.” He rolls his eyes and sits back down just enjoying Ray’s scent. I don’t think I will ever get enough of her beautiful scent. We reach the meadow and Ray halts, mesmerized by the beauty of this place. I took her to the willow tree. It is my secret place, my refuge. I love coming here sometimes to be alone. Just to think. Thor intervenes, “You come here to get away from everyone as you were ashamed of the cruelty your family inflicts on people. But you forget you are not them, and everyone here knows that.” “I should have stopped him. I should have challenged him.” “You know he is using magic; you would have died, and Nicholas would have been the alpha. He was a bigger monster than your father and that’s some feat as your father is pure evil.” “I know.” “Then let us just enjoy our time with Bluey. She seems happy.” “Yes, she does. She looks radiant, shining with sheer joy.” I unpack the basket and lay the blanket. I sat there just looking at her. She is so pure and beautiful even after everything she has endured. When she says it’s beautiful, I reply it’s beautiful looking at her before I can stop myself. I am so embarrassed that I just got back to unpacking, avoiding her eyes. I ask her questions about her likes and dislikes. It’s her birthday on May 1st, I will give her the best birthday even though I won’t be part of it. I ask her about her favorite food, color, locations, and even tiny details about her. What makes her happy? What would she like to do when she has free time? I understand her a little now. I would like to get to know her more, but maybe fate is not on my side. I give her space after that and let her just enjoy the tranquility of this enchanting meadow. She looks happy just watching the butterflies. I will take her to the flowery fields during the butterfly migration season. She would love it. She tells me she loves rain and the smell of wet earth. She loves wildflowers and their sweet scent. After that, we fell back into our peaceful silence just looking at the parrots and blue jays. It’s not an awkward silence but a calming, comfortable silence. After a while, I actually dozed off sitting next to her. It’s so wonderful; to be with her, I feel completely at peace. When Roy linked me, I jumped up searching for threats, “Blaze, you need to get back, we need to talk.” “Is something wrong?” “Not exactly, but can we talk beforehand? I want you to be prepared for this.”
