Ray POV:
“Do you know anything about what exactly happened to Día’s family? I mean my aunts' family.” Día is sobbing next to me, holding me like a lifeline. Connors's name makes her stiff, and she smells of fear.
Connor sighs but starts explaining, “I am really sorry for everything our family has done to both of you. I hate to be a part of them. I am seriously sorry; I didn’t do enough for both of you.
As Blaze said, we were young so we couldn’t control anything. Later, Blaze and Aunty Riyena were sent away to Red Claw Pack. My mom Elizabeth and I were sent to the Black Foot pack. But my mom told Alpha Aaron everything when they were in the office. What she didn’t know was that the Gamma Mateo was in league with my grandfather. He informed the Rogue alpha about everything that was going on in that office. My grandfather then kidnapped my mom, slashed her throat, and hung her at the pack border. When Alpha Aaron was trying to get my mom down, Día and her mom were attacked. When they killed Luna Cynthia, it weakened the Alpha enough to be killed by Seth. They captured Día and imprisoned her. She was eight, and it was a lot harder to subdue her. They didn’t want to kill her for some reason. So, she was imprisoned in silver chains and thrown into a cell.
When I tried helping her over and over again, after Blaze contacted me, they put her away from my reach. We planned to rescue her by creating a diversion, as Blaze told you. One day, Beta Geoffrey was taking her out of the cell, and I saw that as an opportunity. I attacked him. Seth almost killed me that day. After recovering, I was sent off to the boarding school. We have been trying to help you out since then, but we could not do much.”
Día whispers, “So you were the one who got me food and water sometimes and tried getting me out. But I couldn’t leave the building because I vomited blood.” I was shocked. These people are monsters.
“f*****g monsters”, I roared, hearing what my sister has been through.
But before I can say anything else, Blaze shifts and runs off. I am startled. Why did he get so offended? His family members are monsters, but he is an angel. “My angel.”
Connor's voice breaks when he finally says, “Do… d..do you really think we are monsters?”
“Oh no, no...” I said, losing my ability to speak clearly.
Stacey gets up and rubs soothing circles on my back, “I meant Simon, Seth, and their father. You guys helped. You did everything you could. I would never blame you for anything. Please someone call Blaze back. I wanted to talk to him.” I said, sobbing myself. I hurt him, after everything he did for me, I called him a monster. Even though I didn’t call him a monster, he doesn’t know that. He is hurting and I can’t even help him.
Blake says, looking remorseful, “his block is up, and we can’t reach him. Why don’t you go and relax in the cottage for some time, and we will go find him.” With that, the boy shifted and ran. Luke and Ritz went with them. While Stacey came in with me. Connor is carrying Día somewhere else. But I don’t want to be away from her, I just found her. I have a family and a sister. I couldn’t be happier, now I only need my angel to come back to me.
“Connor, could you and Día please come in?”
He looks at Día for permission, who nods. We sat down next to the fireplace. I took Día’s hand, “I have always wanted a family and a big sister. Will you be my family, big sis?” She cries harder and hugs me, almost crushing me with her brute strength. She looks fragile, but her strength is impressive.
“I would love to be your family and your big sister.” She whispered, kissing my head.
“I am sorry, you went through so much. We will get our revenge, big sis. We will train and we will make them pay. No one will ever hurt us again.”
I looked at Connor, “If you make my sister cry, I will hunt you down and kill you. She needs all the love and care. Take care of her.”
“I will do everything in my power and beyond so that she never gets a tear in her pretty eyes. I promise.” He gently squeezes Día’s hand and kisses her head. She becomes stiff as board and her scent of fear makes the room stuffy and unbearable. Connor gently gets up and walks away from her. When she relaxes a little, he gives her a small smile.
I smile at her when she looks up at him adoringly. Connor continues, “I am so sorry about everything. You need to know something else. Let Blaze come back, and we will talk.”
How much more is there? We both just nodded. When I don’t see anyone. I told Connor I would be back. I walked out, going straight towards the meadow. As I am walking there, I can finally smell the scent of forget-me-not flowers. Blaze should be here somewhere. I finally found him under the same willow tree. As I walk towards him, Thor raises his head and looks at me.
“Thor give control back to Blaze. I need to talk to him.” He shakes his head, so I start rubbing his fur and gently pat his head. After a while, when it was clear he wouldn’t shift back, I started talking.
“Thor and Blaze, I am not upset with you. You did everything you could to help. I know you are my angel. That’s why you left; you didn’t want to feel or hear that I considered you a monster. But you are not a monster, you are my angel and always will be my angel. This made me trust you more, not less. I am a little hurt that you could have told me earlier, but you didn’t. I understand why you didn’t. You didn’t have a choice. You did your best with all the options given to you. I remember all the treats, all the cupcakes on my birthdays, jumpers during heavy winters, and all my blue blankets. I remember everything. I have thought about all the times you tried to save me. I understand why you stopped. You didn’t want anyone to die. I wouldn’t want anyone dying for me either. What you did was right. Please don’t hold so much guilt inside you. Please forgive yourself.” When I stopped talking and just leaned on him. We sat there in silence for a minute.
