THE FRIEDNLY PACK 3

1045 Words
Ray POV: Another man and woman walked out carrying a platter of roasted vegetables. There is more food here. Cornbread and beans. Grilled chicken and some kinds of red meat. My stomach growls looking at all that. I am so embarrassed, I just had breakfast, but I don’t think my stomach got that memo. “Why don’t we eat something? I will let everyone know we are here.” I smiled at him. I didn’t think we would walk for so long; it must be early lunchtime. He must have other important things to do rather than showing me around. “Ray, this is Zoe and Samuel. They take care of the kitchen and the vegetable garden around it. We grow a lot of seasonal vegetables here, like peas, tomatoes, squash, melon, herbs, cherries, apricots, and others. We have to keep rotating the crop due to the weather as it gets freezing in the winter, so we can only grow crops during the summer months. We have built a greenhouse just across from here where we keep the pots during winter months. It saves the crop from frost.” He is explaining this with so much passion, I love it when he talks about this place. It is special to him. He is very proud of it. It’s seen on his face. He is like a giant teddy bear, all cuddly and warm. And his temperament matches that of a teddy bear too. I blush at my own thoughts. Zoe and Samuel walked towards where we were standing. “Blaze, let the girl eat. I know you are proud of your tomatoes, but let’s eat and talk.” She just shakes her head as if it’s a personal joke. I want to learn such details about this guy. I want to know everything about him. He is a mystery I want to unravel. He looks happy and carefree. As soon as we sat down to eat, the whole gang walked in except the tall dude Connor. I think that’s what his name was. Stacey walks up to us with another girl who is hiding behind her and kisses her passionately. My eyes go wide looking at that but everyone else just smiles at them. She doesn’t want Blaze; it makes me embarrassingly happy. She gives me a knowing look and winks at me. Oh no, she knows. I hide my face so they can’t see my expressions. I look like those tomatoes Blaze loves. Maybe he will love me just like those tomatoes if he sees my face now. Oh my god, what's wrong with me? I barely know the guy. “Ray, this is my mate and love of my life, Diana Ayer’s. She’s a water Fae.” The girl is stunning, with bright blue eyes and sparkling alabaster skin. Long white hair and ruby-red lips. Fae, she is a Fae. That’s when I directly noticed Ritz. She has similar features with dark auburn hair and green eyes. She smiled at me. Blaze notices me gawking at the girl who is squirming and hiding behind Stacey. “Diana takes some time getting used to new people, but she will talk to you eventually. You should she her shift, sometimes to her original form. It’s mesmerizing.” Now I am more intrigued and confused. I go back to looking at Ritz with open interest. Does she shift too? Is it rude to ask? She notices my inner struggle and takes pity on me by answering my unspoken question. “I don’t shift, Ray; I wish I did. I am an Earth Fae. I will just grow my wings when I reach my full potential, but I don’t have them for now. It takes some Fae decades to get their wings.” Ok, this is officially the coolest place on earth. I am never leaving. Nope, no sir. That’s when Oliver starts talking again, this guy is growing on me with all his yapping. “Ritz, do you need to get naked to show us your wings?” Everyone snickers and Blake lunges at him. Oliver was already running before Blake could react as if he suspected the attack. “Is it always like this?” I asked no one in particular. Zoe answers immediately. “These boys and girls are always causing trouble. Except Roy, Blaze, and Connor. Blake is more relaxed and lighthearted this time. I haven’t seen him laugh this much. It suits him.” She beams at Ritz. I haven’t seen Roy and Connor since this morning. Maybe they are busy. I will quietly ask Blaze later. Luke is literally holding a book and hiding behind it. Using it, he keeps peaking at Oliver. What is up with them? He can just talk to Oliver if he has a crush on him, right? I don’t think Oliver would mind, would he? If they can befriend a Vampire, then maybe he can date him too. We finished our meal surrounded by happy people in a harmonious, serene atmosphere filled with laughter. It’s nice and strange at the same time. Oliver imitates Blaze making fun of his cooking and explaining to me that I should complain about his food. Or he will keep feeding me his weird, unearthly cooking. We all burst out laughing at his gimmicks. After lunch, everyone takes their plate to the kitchen and washes it. They are all so down to earth, it’s hard not to trust them. Even though I know nothing about them, I like them already. Blaze takes my plate and washes it. Everyone goes back to what they were doing after that. As we cross more cottages, I see Blake mending the chicken coop. Ritz is looking after the greenhouse plants. Luke is sitting with young kids teaching them songs, which I find so shocking. He has barely said two words to me since morning and here he is at ease surrounded by so many kids. Stacey is checking the safety barrier of this place with her mate Diana, at least that is what Blaze told me about what she is doing. She looks like a crazy person waving her hand around in the air. I don’t think it would be OK to tell her that.
