Ray POV:
He leaves the big kettle of hot water on the floor and runs away as if the floor was on fire. I smile at his foolishness and freshen up. When I came back in, he was done making the breakfast. He made eggs and some bacon. There is flat bread and churned handmade butter. Pickled olives and nuts. I just look at all the food until he clears his throat, scratching his head again. He looks adorable doing that. He looks much younger when he is nervous. I don’t think he notices how his muscles bulge when he puts his hand behind his head. He looks drool-worthy like I want to lick all his muscles and eat him up. Before I can embarrass myself by saying something stupid, he starts talking again.
“I know it’s not much, but I will stock the kitchen today. I am not here much, so there isn’t much to eat. I think Zoe put some ingredients here earlier so we could make breakfast. She handles food in the community kitchen. I don’t need much, hence the lack of everything. Please let me know what you would like to eat. I will get that for you.” He explains, flashing me a kind and charming smile. He looks so much younger when he smiles.
“It’s plenty. Thank you for everything. For saving me, for carrying me here, and for taking care of me. I don’t know much, but I know there is more stuff I need to be thankful for, so if I forget in the future. Thank you for everything you have done for me.” He comes up to me and shocks me with his actions. He hugs me. This takes me off guard. I have gone from not hugging anyone ever to hugging him twice already. He gently lets me go and holds my hand, dragging me towards the table. The omelet looks strange, but I don’t say anything. I don’t want to hurt his feelings. He put a lot of effort into this. He serves me a little of everything and looks at me expectantly. I just take a bite and swallow when I hear the commotion outside.
“I will go check. You eat.” He says, walking away.
I think it’s pumpkin and anchovies. It’s weird but not terrible. I have been starving and scrapping for food all my life. I respect food more than anything else. He put a lot of effort into this, so I just keep eating. Even if it's a strange combination, it's still tasty. That’s when I heard thunderous footsteps coming through the house. A large group of people followed the loud footsteps.
“Oh my god, I told you. He will feed her something weird. You guys were not fast enough. Look at her eating. God knows what he did this time.” The tall handsome guy says, not Blaze handsome, but handsome. I think I have seen him before when I look at him. I have seen them all before except the two girls and the pale guy in the back. Pale guy? What are they doing with a vampire? The girls are not wolves either. The tall dark guy, he is the tiger from last night.
“It’s not bad, it tastes pretty good actually. I respect all the food given to me. It’s healthy, to say the least. It has pumpkins, anchovies, and eggs. What’s not to like?” I tell him calmly and clearly when I see Blaze looking guilty and ashamed in the background. I flashed a small smile at Blaze.
“Ritz, she is not serious. Is she? What’s not to like, she says.” The guy retorts comically with wild hand gestures. He is amusing, to say the least.
“Oliver stops being dramatic. Try it. It’s good.” Blaze says, talking to the tall guy. Oliver,, I have definitely heard that name before. Blaze looks proud that I am eating his food.
“No, thank you very much. I will have what Zoe gave me for you. You and Ray can enjoy your gourmet breakfast. I didn’t even eat my breakfast and ran here to save her from your explosive cooking skills. Alas, no one can help her. Not only is she eating it, but she says what not to like?”, He scoffs as if I offended him, but the smile on his face says otherwise. He sits down and starts unpacking food from the wooden basket he is holding. Everyone slowly walks in and sits down next to him. They are all eating from the same bowl, snatching food from each other, and laughing. They are all rank members; I can feel their aura. It’s so bright and radiant, unlike the rank members back in the pack whose aura felt dark and malicious. I have always been able to see auras. I don’t know if others can see them as well, but it's natural to me.
I feel like an outsider watching them, the girl who I think is Stacey is sitting next to Blaze. It makes me so jealous; I have never been jealous of anyone or anything in my entire life. I don’t understand this emotion at all. I don’t understand jealousy. Why am I even jealous? What right do I have to be jealous? I am murderously staring at the Stacey girl, even if the rational part of my brain told me I was wrong. She is not a wolf, but she is something powerful. I should stop provoking her, but I can’t help myself. Blaze coughs and breaks the silence. I averted my eyes from Stacey and looked up at him.
“Ray, these are friends. The tall blonde with a running mouth is Oliver. The guy who looks like him is his twin, Eric. The girl next to him with long blonde hair is Ria, his mate. The guy in the chair is Connor. Next to him is our Vampire friend, Luke. He’s good at literature and history. If you want to learn anything about books or yourself, he is your guy. The couple on the couch are Blake and Ritz. Blake is a were Bengal tiger. And Ritz is our Fae warrior. She is excellent with plants. If you would like to grow anything in the backyard, maybe flowers. Umm... yes, Ritz will help you. The guy next to Eric is Roy. And lastly, this is our resident witch, Stacey.” He holds her hand when he says that. So much jealousy and hurt runs through me that I growl before I can control it. It makes the girls flinch, but the boys seem oblivious to my reaction. Everyone except Luke is staring at me as if I am a book, he is trying to read. Stacey slowly takes her hand off Blaze’s hand and moves away. I don’t think the boys even noticed her sudden reaction.
