Blaze POV:

I introduced her to everyone with a brief explanation of who’s who. The rest she will figure it out for herself by getting to know them. It’s not my story to tell her. She needs to bond with people on her own. I will surely help though. I introduced Eric, Oliver, Ria, Blake, Luke, Roy, and Stacey. She is not happy with Stacey for some reason. I don’t understand it. But I will ask her later. Ray gets so excited about Nina and Davis; she is definitely thanking them for the day they helped her, and I wasn’t there again. She suffered so much, and I couldn’t help her. I let her down. I am mentally berating myself for every time I failed her when Roy pats my back. He gives it a gentle squeeze and links me.

“Stop beating yourself up for the past. You did reach her, that’s what is important. She is alive and smiling. Forgive yourself, or you won’t be able to make her happy now if you live in the past. You will never have your present moments with her if you are lost in your head.” He says, chiding me like a teacher. He is wise for his years sometimes. Something is different about him and has been for a long time. He shuts me down every time I bring it up. I will find time to talk to him privately about what is bothering him.

“But I have failed her on countless occasions.” That is all I can say.

“I know your guilt. I carry it myself, but please let’s make her happy now. We will tell her everything soon.” He says calmly.

When Davis says he didn’t tell anyone that they were mates, as Nina would have been in danger from my father. I understood his pain. I told him to just call him Simon. He’s not an Alpha, and we all know that. I have seen so many good people die and saved so many from the verge of death due to his cruel ways. He is a true monster.

Oliver starts goading Blake to talk about his mark. That kid is going to get into trouble someday. I saw Luke looking at Oliver with a look of longing. There is so much pain and love in his eyes that I am taken aback. How have I missed this before? When he sees me, he turns his face. He is hiding something. I link him, asking, “What’s bothering you?”

“I will tell you soon, I promise.” He says with so much sorrow that my heart hurts for him.

“OK, but if I see you hurt like this again. I will pester you till you tell me.” I told him matter-of-factly. He knows I am not kidding.

He nods and hides behind his book, trying to hide his emotions. He should know, we all know he is hiding in there. But from what?

Ray starts observing everyone again. I am smiling like a fool looking at her. Blake gives me a nod; I think he understands me more than anyone else. He loved Ritz from afar for years. Before finally realizing they are mates. I think he knew but waited for Ritz powers to return, so she knew too. When Ray spots Stacey again, I can feel her anger and pain burning through me. I feel like I am missing something, but I can’t figure it out. I needed to say something, but Stacey taught me to be patient with people and wait for them to open up at their own pace. She is the best little sister I could have ever wished for, a powerful and terrifying little sister, but an amazing sister, nonetheless. When Luke winks at Ray, Thor growls so loudly that the whole cabin shakes.

“He can’t have her.” He roars in my mind, trying to take control. He is murderous.

“She is a person, Thor. We need to be happy for her. She can love someone else. She is not our toy.” That makes him angrier. I started shaking in anger. What startles me and calms Thor down is Ray hugging me tightly. I held her close, hugging her back and trying to calm myself down. Her scent overwhelms me. Luke seems sorry for his actions, but his smile says otherwise. He was a playboy, but something changed six months ago. I haven’t seen him with anyone since then, but the pain and hurt in his eyes is unmistakable. Did someone break his heart?

Oliver is like an i***t trying to link me now when I am stepping away from killing someone for looking at Ray.

“Ummm... blaze we need to talk to her. She is getting too close to you. She will think you lied to her.” Before I could reply, he cleared his throat.

“I will get you back for this.” I told him begrudgingly. Connor sees my irritation at Oliver and smacks him. But makes things worse by telling Ray we need to talk.

“You guys need to give her some space. She literally has one free day in her entire life. Please let her enjoy it before we talk.” I begged shamelessly.

“Blaze, you are putting this off. It will hurt her.” He says feeling sorry for me. I ignored him completely and told Ray; we would take things at her pace. Literally, everyone is annoyed at me now. Stacey looks red, now I am actually afraid. She would curse me for this, and it would be some stupid prank. Last time she made Luke talk like a crow for a whole day for not listening to her and considering her advice. I told them that she knew about Roy and me, and she knew we saved her. Blake is not happy that I am not telling her, but I just need a day.

“Please give me a day with her. She might hate me forever after this.” I link everyone begging for them to understand.

“Blaze, she won’t hate you.” Blake is the first to reply.

“She might or she might not. I just need this day with her.” He drops it after that. Thor is silent, but I feel his terror along with mine. We will lose her forever after this. Ray ignores everyone and starts talking to Nina. I am stunned that Nina thought Ray would hate her. It must have hurt her a lot to think about all that, she is such an innocent soul. We are all carrying our fair share of guilt in this situation. I hate my father more and more for all his cruelties. Nina brought such beautiful flowers for Ray.

Thor grumpily replies, “Ray is more beautiful and prettier. She even smells better.”

“That she is, the most beautiful girl ever.” She inches towards Nina, hugging her awkwardly as I am still holding her close. She startles Davis by hugging him too. I can’t stop myself from growling at him. I shot him a sorry look. He just shakes his head laughing at me. I shrug and start scratching my head to avoid people staring at me. Ray rambles about the person in charge and her work. She is never lifting a finger again. Connor is smirking at me, and I know he is going to say something inappropriate and stupid.

“Blaze, have you decided on the sexy work Ray will be doing? It’s now or never.” My cousin asks mockingly.

I growled at him, “I will kill you; I swear.” Now everyone is smirking at me. That bastard linked everyone that message.

I just have to take Ray away from here before they say something stupid to her. They all know I have loved her for as long as I remember. And they know all about my blue blanket. Please God, nobody should tell her that. We walked out before they had a chance to protest, but I went back in to get a jumper and ran as fast as I could before someone stopped me. They all link me, “Please Blaze we need to talk.”

“Soon after the meadow. Please, I need some time with her.” That is all I say, trying to block everyone out.
