Blaze POV:
About midnight, I thought I heard something that woke me up. There is an unknown scent all around us. Ray is secured in my lap, but Ritz is nowhere to be seen. I mind link everyone to wake them up, warning them not to make any noise.
I tell Davis and Oliver to guard Nina and Ray while we look for Ritz. The remaining three wolves form a circle around them, being alert and ready to strike. Blake instantly searches for Ritz and is roaring mad when he finds no traces of her all around us.
“Blaze, where is she? Her made-up bed is cold. Someone took her from here. She was right next to me.” His words came out as a growl filled with anguish, anger, pain, and despair. Without waiting for a reply, he shifts into his majestic tiger form and rushes off toward the darkened woods; Apollo is usually quiet and Stoic like Blake himself, but right now, Apollo is anything but calm. He is out for blood. This proves that Ritz is someone important to him. Maybe his mate? He wouldn’t forgive anyone who had taken her. It would be a mercy if they received a quick death.
He takes off like a bullet, running towards the south. Roy and I shifted instantly, running behind him. It’s harder for me to keep up with him and follow his trail. Soon we were halfway across the path leading to the river. I hear a shrill scream and the sounds of a scuffle. The sound of a slap makes Apollo roar in anger.
As soon as we reach the location, we see the abductors. A few Fae warriors are holding Ritz in iron cuffs and dragging her. I don’t recognize the guy, but he looks like a Fae lord’s son. Before anyone can react, Apollo rips all the warriors apart in one swift move. The scene is horrifying, to say the least. I don't know what happened, but it felt as if time stood still around us for a second. All I saw was a blur before all the dead bodies fell to the ground. He stops and stares at the guy holding Ritz. He drags Ritz towards him in the middle of the pathway and puts an intricately carved knife to her throat.
“I will kill her if you won’t let us pass. She is mine. She was given to me. I have already paid the price for her.”
With that being said, Blake shifts back. Questioning the unknown abductor.
“Who are you?”
“Whom did you pay the price? She is a person, not a thing to be sold. Let her go if you want to live.” He growls without breaking his eye contact with Ritz. He hasn’t looked away from her.
Ritz is crying and bleeding from her neck. The knife is piercing her flesh, making it bleed profusely. That makes Blake madder with rage, as if that was even possible. His eyes glow golden, and his canines are almost two inches long, he is partially shifted.
“I am the son of a lord of the Fae’s. I am Nathan Fawn. Her betrothed and she is coming with me, or she dies here. I will keep you happy, Ritz. I have gold and silks; I will give you all the riches you can imagine. You won’t have to work and soil your hands ever again. You would never walk such dirty roads.” The guy says, boasting about his wealth as if that will get him the girl. Whom he just tried kidnapping in the middle of the night and is holding captive.
She is begging him to let her go. In their discussions, I inch forward toward them as discretely as possible and drag Ritz away from the guy. Blake rips him to shreds in his half beast form as soon as I secure Ritz. He is still having problems controlling Apollo, so we just stand still away from him, giving him space. Ritz slowly walks towards him and gently holds his hands. She lifts herself up on her heels and kisses his lips.
“I am safe, Apollo; I belong to you and Blake alone. No one will ever take me away. Please give control back to Blake.”
“I thought…I… I lost you.” is all he says in a deep grumbly voice before engulfing her in a tight hug and inhaling her scent. We just stand there letting them have their moment. I need to ask her who the attackers were, and should we worry about more of them being here. I had no other option, so I just bit the bullet and asked.
“Ritz, who were they? Do you think there are more of them?” She looks visibly shaken but answers anyway.
“My father arranged our marriage, even though I disagreed with him. I am sorry. I lied to you. I actually ran away with you guys, when I was supposed to go to the palace with Nathan. I didn’t think he would find us. He tracked the necklace my father gave me. I didn’t know it had a black obsidian stone in it, which he used for tracking me. I destroyed it on the way here when Nathan found us. It was binding my powers too; I could feel my powers getting stronger from the time I broke the stone. My family, they did this on purpose, so I behave like a good puppet for them.”
She breaks down sobbing even before she can finish talking. Blake holds her close and whispers, sweet nothing’s in her ear, consoling her. A betrayal from the family hurts more than anything. I would know I have lived with it.
When she has calmed down enough, we all shift back and Ritz rides Apollo back towards the camp. I have never seen Apollo purr like a cat, but I swear he is purring, not that I will say that. He would give me a black eye for voicing it out. He looks happy and my friend deserves all the happiness in this world. Even though the smile on Apollo's face seems more sinister than anything else. It is as if he is planning to eat us all.
