THE GREEN MEADOW 1

Ray POV: With that, Nicholas leaves. I am already half dead hanging from the post. I wish I could just die. I am losing consciousness. Sometimes during the night, I faint altogether while the blood keeps dripping from my torn body. I woke up in a beautiful meadow, there was a huge waterfall with crystal blue water in the distance. I can see the outline of mountain ranges across the meadow. They look like sawtooth mountains but bigger. It can’t be right. I remember being on the punishment platform. What am I doing here? Am I really dead? I am wearing a pale blue dress made out of the softest silk fabric. My wounds are all healed. I am finally dead and in heaven. That’s the only logical explanation I have. Suddenly, a huge red wolf with black patches came towards me. It has blue eyes just like mine. It’s huge, bigger than any wolf I have ever seen. I have never seen a wolf with red fur before. Alpha Simon Wolf's Kane would be smaller than this beast. I should be terrified but somehow, I am not. She simply rubs her head on my body and licks my face. It’s so warm and fuzzy. I saw some other red wolves in the distance playing and wrestling with each other. They are a small pack. I am lost looking at them. They seem so familiar and feel like family. I don’t know what to feel about them. I have never seen my family. When I look away I see something strange. Three beautiful women are walking towards me. They seem ethereal and astronomically beautiful. One in the middle is wearing a warrior’s outfit with leather pants and a leather top on a white tunic. She has long braided hair like a snake hanging on her shoulder and deepest blue eyes. The one on the left is wearing a simmering white dress and has a beautiful moon shape tattoo simmering on her forehead. Her eyes are liquid silver with no irises. And the one on the right is wearing a midnight black sheer fabric dress that simmers like the night sky. She is wearing long beaded necklaces, around her neck which cover her entire chest. The beads look different as well and are in so many different colors and shapes. She had deep black eyes like a smoke screen and silver hair. They are beautiful beyond words. I simply stare at them as if I have imagined them. The one in the middle came towards me while I was lost assessing them. She has a long broad sword and a knife on her hips. She had a bow and quiver with arrows on her back. She gently takes my hand and hugs me like a mother hugs her child. I take in all the comfort. I had never felt so warm before. The other two put their hands on my back as if giving me strength to hold on. Afterward, she takes my face in her hand and gently kisses my forehead. It’s the most loved I have ever felt. I started crying looking at her. A dam had broken inside me, all the emotions I was holding on escaped all at once. “Don’t cry, my child. You are very special and very strong.” She whispers. “Your hardships are coming to an end. You won’t have to be scared ever again.” The one in the white dress says smiling at me. I stared at them with a blank look. They realize I do not recognize them. The one in black finally speaks. Her voice is like a beautiful melody. “I am Hecate, the mother of all witches and warlocks; this is Artemis, the huntress and shifter Goddess. This is Diana, the Goddess of fertility and provider of mates. We are here to give you some peace and reassurance after everything that happened today. Please hold on a little longer, help is coming. I am so sorry we couldn’t help you. We can’t directly interfere in the mortal realm as gods.” I try to bow my head, but Artemis stops me. “No, my child, you don’t have to bow ever. I am so sorry we failed you. Dark magic was involved, and we couldn’t interfere with it without disturbing the balance of the mortal realm. Everything will reveal itself to you soon. I am just asking you to have some faith in us. We will never do anything wrong to you ever again.” I feel confused, but I don’t have any words to voice it out. Diana spoke a second later, looking skeptical. “I have granted you a mate who will love and cherish you. How you were supposed to be cherished, just give him a chance when you realize who he is. He is not a bad person, trusts me.” She almost pleads, which makes me even more bewildered. Why would she say something like that? Will my mate be a malicious person? I must look as terrified as I feel. They realize it too as they try to calm me down, by rubbing my back lovingly while Artemis hugs me tightly. Diana started talking again, “If you feel he is not the right one for you. You can reject him. I will grant you a second chance, mate. But I only hope you give him a chance. He is not who you think he is.” Seriously, she is making me more worried now, with that Hecate and Diana leave the meadow without another. Artemis holds my hand and takes me to the wolf pack. We just sat there looking at the wolves playing with each other. “You are a warrior, my daughter, a protector. You will do great things in your life. Just trust yourself and your friends. They are good people. They will always help you.” She speaks softly. I am more befuddled than ever before. I do not have any friends. People help me out of pity, but they are not my friends. I just nodded and looked at the wolves. They look familiar, but I have never seen a red wolf, but I feel a sense of familiarity with them. The whole wolf pack walks towards us, making me smile. The biggest wolf comes closer and nuzzles my head. He licks my face just like a father’s wolf. The wolves next to him do the same. Slowly, all the wolves do the same while rubbing their bodies against me. It gives me such warmth, feeling all the love that is pouring into me. I never got to be with my parents’ wolves. I don’t even know who they were. I cried, holding on to the giant wolf. All of them came and sat next to me giving me a giant wolf hug. They settle right next to me as if protecting their pup. That moment gave me so much love that my heart cried out. I gave the sincerest howl I could muster in my human form. All the wolves joined in like a family. I spent a few more hours with them just running and tumbling in the meadow feeling their love flow through my veins like blood. The giant wolf lets me ride him just as I have seen wolf pups riding their parent wolves. This is the happiest moment of my life, and I don’t even know whether it’s true or I am hallucinating. But to be honest, I don’t really care. I will always cherish this memory. I am lying on the mama wolf while she hugs my body with her giant head. I see Artemis sitting far away watching us. It looks like she is protecting us. “My daughter, I hope I have given you some peace. Soon it will make more sense to you who these wolves are. Sorry I cannot tell you myself, but I will make sure you know. We will all be present for you, guiding you whenever you need. You have so much spirit and light. You are my daughter; you are a warrior and a protector, remember that.” With that, she hugs me and guides me towards the waterfall, bidding farewell to the wolf pack. “My daughter, you have to go back now. It’s been too long. You cannot stay here any longer.” She whispers, hugging me. “But I like it here. I don’t want to go back there, not now, not ever.” I sound like a whiny kid, but I don’t really care. I pout like a spoiled kid who didn’t get a toy. She kisses my forehead gently, smiling down at me. “I know my child, but I promise everything will be better soon.” She smiles at me and whispers a chant. It is some weird language; I don’t really understand. “Concedo tibi praesidium ab omni malo, quod in umbris latet, nulla tibi nova magica nox iterum noceat”. (I grant you protection from all the evil that lurks in the shadows, no new dark magic will harm you again.) I do not understand what she did, but I gave her a small smile and waved to the wolves. They all howl together like a family as if they were saying a final goodbye.
