Ray POV:
I sense myself returning to consciousness and slowly opening my eyes, I look around. Every part of my body hurts. Slowly trying to adjust to the darkness that surrounds me, I scan my surrounding. It takes me a moment to realize that I am still on the podium hanging from the pole. The awareness brings back all the pain that I had forgotten wandering about in my dream, all the happiness is shrouded with pain, and everything hurts. I can barely breathe without tearing up. I can still feel blood oozing from my torn back. My head is throbbing as if someone is shocking me with a live wire. Somehow, I realize that the burning in my veins is not there anymore. Wolfsbane is not affecting me. I don’t even know why my brain focuses on that when my entire body feels like a wild inferno of pain. Maybe I am so numb from all the pain that I don’t feel it. That seems like a reasonable explanation.
Even in my current situation, I am thankful for the dream I had. I don’t understand it, but it gave me security and love. I will hold onto it till I die. It gave me a sliver of hope to hold onto my miserable life just for a little while longer.
I can feel someone on the podium, a few someone’s. They get me free and carry me down. My vision is blurry from all the pain and blood loss. I can barely focus on anything. I can’t even make out who these people are or why they are helping me.
Nina and Davis, I see them clearly, even though I can’t fully focus on anyone else at the moment. They are trying to say something, but I can barely hear them. She gives me some water and medication while cleaning my wound with a tattered cloth. I try to talk but my throat is so hoarse, it hurts to even try. She just shakes her head, telling me to keep quiet. Davis carries me, and they start running towards the pack house. They carry me to my room, where Nina helps me remove my tattered clothing without another word. All the guys just turn around giving me privacy, but they don’t go far away, as if keeping watch. It’s like they are protecting me. I am so confused. Why are they helping me? Nina could sense my confusion and started talking, “Alpha went somewhere with those other people. No one is around, we just wanted to help.” She helped me undress completely and change into a gray t-shirt and leggings, the only other pair of clothing I own. She looks around as if searching for something.
“Where is your stuff? We need to leave now.” She whispers, looking more frantic.
“I don’t have anything apart from the blue blanket and these clothes,” I tell her softly, feeling more embarrassed than anything else. She looks baffled but quickly recovers. Davis comes in and wraps me in the blue blanket like a human burrito. Before I can complain or ask any questions, he carries me up. We are outside before I can even blink, almost running as if someone is after us. All of them start running towards the border, trying to stay as silent as possible. I don’t understand what’s going on, but I don’t have much energy to ask or argue. Everything hurts, every movement brings me a new wave of pain. All I can do is stay as silent as I can when they are obviously trying to escape with me.
As we crossed the vegetable garden running towards the deeper part of the forest. We are surrounded. Davis put me down gently, but still, a fresh wave of pain made me whimper. They take a defensive fighting stance around me. Now I am more confused. Why are they fighting for a slave? Almost twenty wolves surround us, while all of us are still in human form. They are massively built like patrol warriors. A huge gray wolf walks up to us while the other wolves part, giving him the way. I instantly know who it is “Nicholas”. He shifts back, walking towards me; he is all naked. Wolves usually don’t care about nudity as we shift often, but we still respect others enough to cover ourselves.
“Little birdie... tsk... tsk... tsk... Where are you going? We were just starting to play, and you decided to run. I have so many plans for you.”
I am shivering with fear. What is he going to do now? He has a malicious aura surrounding him. All the wolves look weird and roguish; they have reddish eyes. A foaming mouth with saliva dripping from it. They look disgustingly terrifying.
“You know, I am a generous man. I will forgive all of you for your transgression only if you little birdie, agree to be my mistress. I would love to break your spirits. We had other plans, but alas, I would do it. So, what do you say?” I am completely frozen in terror. I cannot give myself to this monster, my dignity is my only priced possession.
I try standing up even though every muscle in my body protests with great effort. I stood tall, looking straight into his eyes, “I will die before being yours.”
“Well, that’s a problem now. Isn’t it? I promised. I won’t kill you. But this little savior group of yours, I will enjoy killing them one by one, if you don’t agree.” Nicholas roars loudly. The wolves inch forward and attack Davis and Nina. All five people who were with me are on the ground with their heads ready to be torn apart any second. When Nicholas comes forward caging me in his arms, I struggle trying to break his hold, but it’s futile. I have no energy from everything that has happened in the last few days. He smells my hair and neck while licking my bloody chick.
“Umm... so yummy. I want to know what’s so special about you. I will have you. All your power would be mine.” He sneers raising my heckles. What the hell is he talking about? I am just a slave. What power?
Before I can react, he cups my face roughly and brings my face to his lips. I frantically squirm to get away from him, but he holds my throat tightly and squeezes it harder. I finally gained some momentum and pushed him away with all my might.
He looks as if I slapped him. He aggressively lifts me up before slapping me hard the very next second. My vision is growing dark with pain, dark spots surround me. Then he lifts me, and his canines are close to my neck. He kisses my neck roughly.
“I guess. I should just mark you as mine.” He growls deeply in my ear.
