Blaze POV:
Connor is my cousin from Black Foot Pack. His family is similar to mine. I have no clue what we did to be born. I am ashamed of everything my family has done so far. They are real monsters in this world. I will never be able to atone for all their sins. His father, similar to Simon, is evil and malicious.
Today is a very important day, all I have to do is not kill someone. And we are good. Which is not an easy task. I am going away for a two-year Alpha training session according to my pack members, but we have a different plan. Which all depends on today is going well.
When I reached the familiar campus grounds, I saw the wall. The massive blue stone wall that separates us from the rest of the world. I reached the opening we have created here for me to slip past the border patrol. Roy is waiting there with clothes. I can see him from a distance. I quickly shifted and put on the black hoodie and jeans. We walked back to the dormitory to relieve Blake. Then we can all get ready for our graduation. Packs are not big on education but basic knowledge of our history and world is very important. If you are ready to hide from humans and study more, we have a few schools in Idaho, which are run by the shifter council.
I wanted to have some administration knowledge to help grow the pack. I am good at finance as well. I have some ideas which we will need to implement for cash flow. I am working hard for my future pack. I have been learning more about sustainable energy and agriculture. This will help us survive.
When we reached our dorms, Blake greeted me. He is always stoic, calm and composed. He just nods and makes his exit. I hope he gets someone who finally breaks his walls, his Stoic persona, and brings some color into his life. Connor came in and gave me his signature smirk, notifying me that I was going to be mad about whatever he said next.
“So, Blaze, did you find some ray to blaze your fire?”
Before I can react, Roy puts him in a chokehold. And I smacked his head. Going towards my bed to dress up. Our formal suits and regalia have already been dropped off. They are in our signature colors of blue and gold. Blue scarf with golden tassels.
Roy and I headed towards the common washrooms to get ready for the miserable night which was my graduation. I showered and shaved. Putting on the navy blue three-piece suit and a blue tie, I smiled at myself. The color represents Ray’s beautiful blue eyes, a small part of her with me today. Her beautiful ocean-blue eyes. I have dreamed of them every day for as long as I can remember. I put on the dark brown Italian leather shoes. It’s like my father cares just for the show and spends the entirety of his pack money on just being prim and proper. I don’t even know if the pack members are getting paid at all and have enough money to keep themselves warm if not happy. It drives me mad to see how everyone is treated as slaves.
Roy comes back and looks at me, staring in the mirror. He puts his hand on my shoulder, consoling me that soon this will be over.
“We should probably go, Blaze. Everyone is here.”
“I just want this day to end, I know they will hate me. For what I am about to say. I don’t want that hate to transfer to other people.”
“Let’s get this over with then.” I just nodded, walking away with him.
We went to the entrance garden, where a cocktail party was being organized for the guests. The entrance garden is located in the courtyard in front of the school building. A beautiful rotunda is located in the center which is covered in food. All the students are present here with their families and friends. I hated seeing my family standing towards the edge of the field, clearly showing that they didn’t like people different from them. They have a misguided notion of being of higher status than other people.
As soon as I started walking, I saw our gamma, Michael Shane, and Stephany’s daughter Sarah running up to me. She looks happy but what is she wearing? That’s the tiniest piece of clothing I have ever seen a girl wear. I don’t mind people being comfortable in their skin. But it doesn’t look like she is comfortable at all. Roy gives me a look; he thinks she is sweet on me, but I don’t believe that.
“Hi Blaze, I missed you, how are you?”
“Hi Sarah, I am good thanks.”
Now I see it, she flinches but quickly recovers.
“Oh good, I have so much to tell you. We should go somewhere. I would love to see the campus. Will you show me?”
“I can ask my friend Stacey to show you around. She can take you anywhere you want to go. I have some work to get done, so I won’t be able to accompany you.”
Now she is clearly annoyed, and huffs. “It’s fine, I will wait for you.”
“Oh, sorry but that won’t be possible.” I hate disappointing people, but I like being blunt and clear. And I used to think that she was a friend. But clearly, I was wrong.
I seriously don’t care about her or her feelings anymore, and I am not giving her any wrong signals. This girl could be trouble in the future. I don’t want any trouble with her, even if I think she is a nice girl. I have always wanted just one girl with all my heart, my own Ray, my blue eyes.
I see that everyone is giving me the look. My parents are clearly irritated. They can get in the line. I am not letting them set me up with Sarah. The gammas are so angry that you can see fumes coming out of their nostrils. My father started saying something before I could walk away from them. His face tells me that he is not happy with me.
“Blaze, you should make time for Sarah. She came all the way here for you.”
“Well, she shouldn’t have. Thanks for coming, Sarah, but I have work to do. I will catch you guys sometime later. I have to meet some important people.” My dad is fuming, but he won’t create a scene where his reputation can be tarnished. It’s very important to him.
I see Stacey and her family in the distance. Her family is really nice and always treats us well. I make a beeline for them before anything else happens. The whole coven is here for Stacey. Along with her mom, who is also the coven mother, Nicole Bones.
“Hi Ma’am, how are you?”
“No Ma’am business, call me Nicole. Blaze”
“I hope you are doing well Nicole. How’s the coven doing?”
“They are doing well; Stacey will join them soon after her graduation. We are looking forward to it.”
I look towards Stacey; I know we all have to convince our families today if we want to proceed with our plan. But I think Stacey will luck out here. Nicole is a good person. And I don’t think Stacey will lie to her about what we are doing.
“Stacey is a really talented and gifted witch with a heart of gold. I am sure she will be a strong member someday.” I am going to walk away before anyone realizes, I am evading and not commenting on her joining the coven. I am not going to be questioned by anyone, at least not for now.
“I have to meet Connor and Blake. I will catch you guys later. Good to see you all.”
I made a narrow exit when I saw the expression on Nicole’s face freeze for a second. She is extremely quick-witted and sharp as an arrow. There is no doubt she caught my words. I rushed towards a smiling Connor. I seriously think that guy can read my thoughts as he just shakes his head.
“Connor, how are you?”
“I know you are avoiding Nicole. You are afraid of her questioning you. But be a little subtle. I honestly think Nicole picked up your stupid hint, and she knows that we are planning something.”
“I know Connor, but you know I can’t lie to Nicole. She treats us as her own. She is just like a mother to us. I can’t lie to her, and I won’t.”
We are being really soft so no one can hear us. Plus, the rings Stacey gave us are a boon. They give us enough privacy to talk freely in the open without worrying about someone overhearing us. It provides a temporary soundproofing ring. Basically, making us mute to anyone trying to eavesdrop on our conversation. All we have to do is rub our rings and no one will hear us. Shifters have a unique sense of smell and hearing, just like our counterpart animals. However, all the supernatural’s have strong senses, and we have a lot of people present here today. We are fine as long as no one is very close to us. We will be in trouble if someone is specifically eavesdropping within the ring radius. Which is impossible, as Connor made sure, we are alone where we are standing now.
“I understand everything will be OK. Here, let’s have a drink and calm down. You will need liquid courage tonight if we want to avoid any mishaps.”
We move towards the drinks table, and I pick up an Irish whiskey on the rocks and pour another glass into it, making it a double. The golden liquid burns my throat, but it makes me feel better. Were-whiskey is almost intolerable to other supernatural as it’s very strong and almost pungent due to our high tolerance to liquor. Connor leaves me and goes towards his father, Seth Lane. He has a similar relationship with his parents. They are shady and corrupt, like my own father. I could feel Connor hating this situation even before he reached them. Again, I see a pretty girl with skimpy clothes just like Sarah.
I walked towards Blake. He is the only one who is least stressed out today with everything regarding our plan. I can sense his thoughts and his feelings of loneliness; he misses his parents. He feels they were good people according to everything he remembers, which is not much if I am being honest. I will invite him to dinner tonight, so at least I will have someone to talk to if Roy has to go somewhere or is tricked into not coming by his parents. Plus, I don’t trust my parents enough to be alone with them.
“Blake, are you alright?”
It’s a useless question. I know it, but I need him to talk or at least say something. His silence is painful. He is hurting and he is all alone. Seeing everyone laughing with their parents must cut him deep.
“I am ok. Blaze. You should worry about other things.” He gave me his signature look. I know what he means, I have to keep my cool and not lose my temper tonight.
“I will handle it Blake, don’t worry. I actually wanted to invite you for dinner. If you are up for it.”
I know what he will say. But he knows I really need him today.
“You know, Blaze. That will not help you. I can sense you have a plan, and you really need me there for something. Are you sure this is a good idea? You know how your father is? He will not agree to having dinner with an Orphan, a tiger at that.”
“I do, but we need tonight to be flawless. We need every chess piece in its right place if we want to win our game. This is the only way. I can’t make the mistake of trusting them again, not today of all the days. They will try something tonight, especially after how I treated Sarah. They will definitely retaliate.”
“Sure.”
