Chapter 14 : Divine Mission

509 Words
Salin Damn, this town sure is nice. Of course it is. It's one of the most prosperous towns in the Human Empire after all. Would it really look like a slum? Hey c'mon, give me a break. This is the first time that I got out of the forest, I don't know anything about the outside world. Ah right, sorry. The town was quite big, around 3 kilometres across from corner to corner. The walls were 10 meters tall and 5 meters thick, and it's made out of this weird glowing rock. The gates were made out of a mix of that Radiant Steel that Aeyr mentioned earlier as well as another unknown magical metal. After a few seconds, I decided to ask. Hey Aeyr, what are the walls and gates made out of? About the walls, they are made out of Resonating Stone. In the past, people considered it absolutely useless since it did absolutely nothing other than vibrating. Then some i***t dropped a war hammer on it and then had his hammer sent flying into his face. Oh, did he survive? Somehow, someway, he did survive. Anyway, they found out that the stone could reflect any force and energy that is stronger than, say a standard fireball. So, it's used in anything from defensive walls, fortresses, to even golems.  What about the gates then? The gates are made out of Radiant Steel, as you can tell, as well as Mithril. Radiant Steel to protect against demons and creatures of the dark, and Mithril to protect against overall magic. Okay, gotcha. "Lord Salin?" Turning my head, the captain was looking at me. "Yes?" "If I may ask, what mission has your patron entrusted to you?" .......what? Ah, right, about that, uh, the thing is.... You forgot again didn't you? I did no such thing! Anyway, here! *DING* Aeyr, The God of Spirits, entrusts you with a divine mission! You will be your patron's eyes and ears throughout the world, as well as his blade. You shall protect the spirits of the dead, the spirits of nature, help those who went astray and cast the ones who are corrupted into the void. As such, necromancy is forbidden, either make them change their ways, if possible, and if not, end their existence. It doesn't matter who it is that decided to attack spirits, be they a commoner, a noble, a criminal, a saint, or even a god. You shall strike them down for their crimes, no matter what. So, I'm basically a guardian of spirits as well as your version of a paladin? Any warrior serving a god is a paladin, but yeah. Cool. Of course that's what you would say to your patron god who brought you here from Earth and just gave you a Divine Mission that says 'protect this, kill this'. What?  You want me to kneel, make you an altar and then sacrifice a virgin on top of it? What the he-?! Of course not! Good, because I don't know how I'm going to do that.
