Ares's POV :
A small smile tugged at my lips, as I stared at my unconscious mate like a f*****g creep. She lay peacefully on my bed, looking so beautiful despite the burns on her face. I've waited for years for a mate and the moon goddess finally sends her my way. Sometimes I've had to punch myself really hard, to make sure I wasn't dreaming.
It's been over 24 hours since I managed to stabilize her and I've never left her side. I was going to protect her at all cost, even if she'd probably snarl and growl at me, when she finally wakes up. I chuckled at the thought of her scowling face. My mate was a really hotheaded female and I wouldn't have it any other way. I didn't even know her name. She never told me, no matter how many times I asked.
"Mate is mine!" My wolf howled in my head, forcing himself out to have a glimpse at her.
"Baby steps, Ares....baby steps." I whispered to myself, running my hands over the burns on her face. Many may call it ugly but to me, it made her look lethal. It made her look like a survivor and I could already tell that we'll make really strong pups. Pups that will grow up to dominate.
"What is it, Jade?" I asked out aloud, sensing a familiar presence watching me from the door. Jade has been a very loyal ally and member of my pack, ever since we got started. At some point in our lives, we were really close, taking solace in each other's arms as we both had no mate. Of course, things are different now.
Fact was, she never approved of my mate being here with us. She regards her as a threat and even went as far as suggesting that I take her back to her former pack. The same pack of werewolves that hunted her down for days like a f*****g prey, leaving her for dead.
"You can't help her." Jade said, walking slowly into the room. I took in a deep breath in a bid to help control my rising temper.
"She's mine." I seethed, not taking my eyes off my unconscious mate.
"She's an Alpha slayer, that's what she is." Jade snapped at me. If it was any other person, I would have ripped out their tongue. Sometimes I feel like I give her too much privilege.
"Her former pack is probably still on the hunt for her. You do realize the gravity of what she did?" She continued.
"Let them come." I replied, taking her small hand in mine. My little firebug! Her skin was so soft and pale, almost like milk. She also had shiny, dark hair like me and I smiled at that.
Jade let out a sigh of frustration at my unwillingness to reason with her. I simply ignored.
I didn't know the story of my little fire cracker, didn't know why she killed an alpha or if she really did. One thing was sure though, there was absolutely nothing that could change my mind about her.
"Haven't you given a thought to her Alpha phasing? Haven't you thought of how strange it is?" Jade argued again, making me frown.
"An Alpha's powers are supposed to be inherited by their offsprings and not by whoever takes their life." Jade said, making me turn around to face her. I had an idea of what she was trying to imply.
"Unless the she also murdered the Alpha's offsprings too." She gritted her teeth, looking accusingly at my mate.
A growl escaped the back of my throat immediately and I charged towards her at lightspeed, grabbing her neck and lifting her off the floor. How dare she accuse my mate of such atrocity?
"Alpha Damian had a son and he's still very much alive." I snarled in her face.
"Next time, you think deeply before pointing accusing fingers." I warned, before abruptly letting go of her neck, letting her drop to the floor. She went into a coughing fit, holding onto her neck and bowing in submission.
The sudden shouts of commotion from outside the room, made me tense up instantly. Jade was immediately on her feet too, instinctively sinking into a defensive stance.
I looked towards the bed and my eyes widened, when I realized that my mate was no longer there. She was nowhere in sight and I felt myself panic slightly.
"She's...gone!?" Jade whispered in shock.
The smell of smoke and burning wood, suddenly wafted into my nostrils. It was mixed with the scent of my mate and I immediately stormed right out of the room, following the direction from where it was coming. I just hoped it wasn't what I was thinking, as I practically ran out of my pack building.
"Find mate!" My wolf growled at the back of my mind, trying to force himself out. I ignored him.
On getting outside, I was taken aback by the scene in front of me. My whole territory was literally on fire, wolves running around and trying to save anything they could. Did she do this? Did my mate do this within such short time?
In the middle of the whole chaos, she stood completely naked with a cold, unfazed look in her eyes. Our eyes met and I almost couldn't recognize her anymore. Her aura had changed completely, as she stood right in the midst of the flames. She did it. She did all these. But how?
I let out a low, warning growl at her. She may now have a full, alpha aura around her but it had no effect on me. I have been bullying alphas for as long as I could remember.
"s**t!" I exclaimed to myself, as my eyes caught the sight of a large, burning tree behind her. The tree was slowly falling forward, right on my unsuspecting mate.
On instincts, I dashed towards her direction, pushing her out of the way and falling over with her in my arms. I watched as the tree crashed onto the spot, where she had been standing and I breathed out in relief, turning my attention back to her.
She had a small frown on her face, as she looked down at my lips. Her eyes roamed all over my facial features, like she was trying to memorize them and pleasurable sparks flew through my body. She wasn't fighting against my hold, not even as she was naked.
In that moment, I had totally forgotten about the commotion in my territory. I had forgotten about the fire and any other thing that mattered. My mate was lying right on me and my wolf was howling joyfully. It took everything in me not to kiss her senseless. I wanted to do that so badly.
"Ares!" She whispered, as if trying to make sure I was really here. My wolf was literally in a frenzy, on hearing our mate call out our name for the first time. Her eyes were now back to normal and the burn marks on her face...they were gone.
"Your face!" I said to her in shock, cupping her face in my hands. The burns were completely gone, like they were never there.
"Ares, he's here." She whispered again to me, fear evident in her eyes. It made me frown. Who was she talking about? Who was this that made my mate so scared?
The flames around us abruptly died down, as if they were put out by someone but I still had my attention on my terrified mate.
"Who is he?" I asked, holding her close to me as she suddenly tried to pull away.
Jade suddenly emerged from a body of rising smoke, looking around frantically. Her yes finally landed on us and I could instantly tell there was more trouble.
"I told you they'd come." She deadpanned, looking right at my mate.
"They're here for her!"
