Chapter 2

Lyra's POV : Fire! That was all I could see. I saw fire razing down every single tree around me and it slowly brought a sadistic smile to my scarred face. I've set a house on fire before, just to watch it burn to ashes. Hell, I've even burnt a couple trees in the woods and still nothing! Nothing could top this feeling right now because I was standing right in the middle of a burning forest. Call me a psycho or a freaking arsonist but when your whole family are killed in a fire, it can be traumatizing in a way. For me, I just loved to watch the world around me burn. Wild animals were busy running around for safety, while I just stood there, admiring the chaos. The scent of burning wood and even burning flesh wafted into my nostrils, making me sigh in satisfaction. I heard distant howls of wolves and I knew, this must have probably been their territory. Suddenly, I spotted the silhouette of a large, dark wolf. It was standing a few feet away from me and it was looking right at me with fire, reflecting in it's eyes. I could smell the anger, pain and strife radiating off the creature, as it snarled at me. I tried to turn around and run out of it's sight but alas! My feet felt like they were stuck to the ground. I couldn't move a muscle and that made me panic almost instantly. Why were my muscles suddenly feeling so weird? It suddenly started to charge at me, growling and snarling ferociously but I still remained stuck in that spot. My eyes widened in fear and I opened my mouth to scream. "Aaarrrgh!!!" I screamed in utter terror, suddenly jerking myself up from what seemed to be a bed. I had been dreaming the whole time? Wait, I was on a bed? Beads of sweat rolled down my face, as I frantically inspected my surroundings. There was a strong, familiar scent of burning pine wood in the dark colored room and I began to wonder where I had known the scent from. Oh, that's it! Those green eyes. I remembered him picking me up from the mud and dirt. "Bad dreams?" A deep, soothing voice spoke from a darker corner of the room, startling me instantly. It was him. It was the green eyed male from earlier but I still couldn't see his face clearly. As if hearing my thoughts, he started taking slow, heavy steps towards my direction, thereby stepping into the light. He finally came into view and goddess! I was looking at a dangerously attractive male. Even my wolf was stirring inside me at the sight. "Who are...y.. you?" I stuttered, eyeing him cautiously. This man was built like a freaking mountain. He had nothing but a pair of sweatpants on. Pants that were hanging dangerously low on his torso, giving a very vivid view of his abs and V-line. He had long, dark hair and beards that made him appear like some really deadly viking. I think I also spotted a braid in his hair, which made me frown because only rogue wolves braid their hair. He didn't smell like a rogue, neither did he look like one. "Shouldn't I be the one asking? You were caught trespassing in my territory." He stated, looking directly into my eyes. All of a sudden, the room was feeling way hotter than it initially was. He seemed to have caught me staring and I immediately looked away. "I was lost." I said to him. "Is that so? Cause I could have sworn, some Blood Claw warriors were after you." He clicked his tongue, now grabbing a seat right beside the bed. His stare was so intense like he was trying to spot a lie from me. "Words about a particular Alpha Slayer on the loose." He said, drawing his gaze down to the mark on my exposed chest, just above my breasts. I suddenly felt self conscious, awkwardly trying to cover up myself. He doesn't know my name, does he? He had already seen my mark. The mark of an Alpha slayer, a curse that will follow me everywhere I go. But why wasn't he trying to kill me? "You should have let me die." I said to him. A growl suddenly reverberated from his throat, making me flinch slightly. He bared his teeth at me, indicating his displeasure at my words. I frowned at him in confusion but one thing was sure. This male was definitely an Alpha. "You don't get to choose death." He snarled. "You belong to me now. I'm the one who gets to decide if you live or die." He said, his eyes turning a darker shade. "I'll make you mine and you will bear my pups, little mate." Memories of how he picked me up in the rain, held me close to his chest and claimed me began to flood my thoughts. A gasp escaped my lips in realization. He thinks I'm his soulmate! "You think we're mates?" I asked, giving him an incredulous look. He said nothing. "You're clearly either mistaken or delusional. I don't belong to you or..." I started to say, before being interrupted by his growl again. This time, it seemed like his wolf was pushing to the surface. I swallowed my words instantly. Dammit! I knew the Moon goddess was up there right now, having a laugh at my life because what the hell? I was just literally rejected by my own soulmate like what? A week ago now? "I am Alpha Ares of the Southern territories, the alpha of rogue wolves. Whatever I say is what will happen." He growled in my face, before standing up and turning around to leave the room. Alpha Ares? Alpha of rogue wolves? As in, the Rogue Alpha? f**k, I was right about him being a rogue afterall. His scent, the dangerous and untamed aura around him, I knew something was off. This was the infamous Rogue Alpha, right in front of me. I suddenly jumped down from the bed, popping out my claws and snarling at him. It has always been my instinct as a pack warrior to attack and kill rogues. Alpha or not, he won't be an exception. Hearing me, he stopped in his track, right at the door. "Don't flatter yourself, little mate." He said, without looking back. If I could just quickly sneak up on him. "You might have killed an alpha but I promise, you've never met one like me." He then turned around to face me. "Even if you do succeed in killing me, under a very slim chance. I lead a pack filled with wild, vicious, rogue werewolves. You really think you can take them all?" I felt my claws retract back inside and my initially strong resolve crumble. He was right. There was no use fighting and it's not as if I'm even a pack warrior anymore. Besides, I was way too hungry to be trying anything like that, right now. I slowly retreated, making a smug smirk spread across his face. He can smirk all he wants for now but that's it. Once I find my full strength again, he won't be able to keep me here. A thought suddenly occurred to me, as I looked down at my body, frowning at the oversized shirt I was wearing. An oversized shirt that smelled strongly of him. I felt a sudden surge of anger and embarrassment, causing me to let out a growl. Why the hell was I in his shirt? "Did you change me?"
