CHAPTER 14The next thing that happened was the arrival of Inspector Rumsey at the Varick house. It transpired that Mme. Storey had sent for him before I was up. He arrived in a closed car by way of the courtyard. We three retired into the Commodore’s study to consult. “I must yield up my responsibility in this case,” said Mme.
