Samantha's phone rang, interrupting her thoughts. She picked it up and saw that it was a call from an unknown number. Hesitantly, she answered.
"Hello?"
"Hi, Samantha? It's Lauren," came the voice on the other end.
Samantha's heart skipped a beat. Lauren? Liam's fiancé?
"Oh, hi Lauren," she said, trying to keep her voice steady.
"I hope I'm not catching you at a bad time," Lauren said. "I was wondering if you might be able to help me with something."
Samantha's mind raced. Help her with what? The wedding?
"I'm getting married in a few months, and I could really use some help with the planning," Lauren continued. "I know you're a designer, and I was hoping you could lend your expertise."
Samantha was stunned. She had never expected to be asked to help plan Liam's wedding, especially not by his fiancé. But at the same time, she felt a pang of guilt. She had been harboring feelings for Liam, and now she was being asked to help plan his wedding.
"I don't know, Lauren," Samantha said, trying to buy herself some time. "I'm not sure if I'm the right person for the job."
"Oh, please," Lauren said. "I've seen your work, and it's amazing. I would be so grateful if you could help me out."
Samantha hesitated for a moment, then finally gave in. "Okay, I'll help you," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Great! I'll send you the details," Lauren said. "Thank you so much, Samantha. You have no idea how much this means to me."
Samantha hung up the phone and sat there for a few minutes, trying to process what had just happened. She felt conflicted, torn between wanting to help Liam's fiancé and feeling guilty about her own feelings for him.
As the days went by, Samantha threw herself into the wedding planning. She spent hours poring over color swatches, floral arrangements, and dress designs. She worked closely with Lauren, who turned out to be a kind and gracious woman, and together, they created a beautiful vision for the wedding.
Despite her reservations, Samantha found herself enjoying the planning process. It was a welcome distraction from her own complicated feelings, and it felt good to be helping someone else.
As the wedding approached, Samantha found herself growing more and more nervous. She didn't know how she would handle seeing Liam and Lauren exchange vows, knowing that she had once harbored feelings for Liam. But she knew she had to be strong, for Lauren's sake.
Finally, the day of the wedding arrived. Samantha arrived at the venue early, wearing a simple black dress and clutching her notebook tightly. She had a job to do, and she was determined to do it well.
As the guests began to arrive, Samantha busied herself with last-minute details. She checked and double-checked the seating arrangements, made sure the flowers were perfectly arranged, and oversaw the placement of the decorations.
When it was time for the ceremony to begin, Samantha took a deep breath and took her seat in the front row. She watched as Lauren walked down the aisle, looking radiant in her wedding gown. And then, she saw Liam, waiting at the altar, looking handsome and happy.
Samantha felt a twinge of sadness, but she also felt happy for Liam and Lauren. They were perfect for each other, and she knew that they would be happy together.
As the ceremony ended and the guests began to file out, Samantha felt a sense of relief wash over her. She had done her job well, and she had chapter in peace, knowing that Liam and Lauren were starting their lives together.
Samantha lingered behind as the guests filed out of the reception hall. She wanted to make sure everything was cleaned up and put away properly before she left. As she was collecting some leftover decorations, she heard a familiar voice behind her.
"Hey there," Liam said.
Samantha turned around, surprised to see him standing there. He looked dapper in his suit, with a small grin on his face.
"Hi Liam," she said, feeling her heart skip a beat.
"I just wanted to say thank you," he said. "The wedding was amazing, and it wouldn't have been possible without you."
Samantha blushed. "Oh, it was nothing," she said. "I was happy to help."
"No, seriously," Liam said. "Lauren and I are so grateful. You made our special day even more special."
Samantha smiled, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. It felt good to know that she had made a difference.
As they stood there talking, Samantha couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness. She knew that this was the end of their story. Liam was married now, and she needed to move on.
But even as she tried to push her feelings aside, Liam's words rang in her head. "You made our special day even more special." She had done that. She had made a difference in Liam's life, even if it wasn't the difference she had hoped for.
As she left the reception hall and headed back to her apartment, Samantha felt a sense of closure. She had finally let go of her feelings for Liam, and she was ready to move on with her life.
Over the next few months, Samantha threw herself into her work. She landed several high-profile design projects and began to build a name for herself in the industry. She also started dating again, going out on dates with several interesting and attractive men.
But even as she dated and worked and lived her life, Liam remained in the back of her mind. She still thought of him often, wondering how he was doing and what he was up to. She even found herself looking him up on social media, just to see what he was posting.
But she knew that she needed to move on. Liam was married now, and she couldn't dwell on what might have been. Instead, she focused on building her career and enjoying her life, knowing that the future was full of endless possibilities.
And who knows? Maybe someday, she would find the kind of love that she had been searching for all along.
