Loren Luper POV The off season wasn’t even fully over and Zeke already had us riding north like our lives depended on it. The engines roared beneath us as we tore through the dirt paths just beyond Ironclad territory, the cold biting sharper the farther we went. I welcomed it, the sting of the wind against my face helped drown out the noise in my head, helped keep certain thoughts buried where they belonged. At least that’s what I told myself. A week, that was all the break we had left before preliminaries began again. Zeke said rust killed faster than blades and knowing him, he would stand by it till death.
