"I'd rather die than be mated to this, this monster." "Phee!" My mother's voice rendered me mute. This was the first time she had ever raised her voice at me. "I beg you, do not let our sacrifice be in vain. You are the future of the Silver Night Pack." "Lycan Ki- no. Alpha Grunade, you have my blood oath as your successor and the Alpha of the Black Fur Pack and the now, the Silver Night pack. Your daughter's life will be preserved. I accept her as my Luna." The last words he uttered sent a shock through my head. It was the most painful thing I've ever experienced. I started seeing flashes of memories that weren't mine. I cried out in pain clutching my head. "Suginite!" "Phee!" Reynold himself looked worried. Just as my parents were about to rush to me, Dominic ordered, "Don't move. You two are already dead." They watched as I cried and howled in agony. "Mommy, Daddy, make it stop." The images wouldn't stop. The pain intensifies with every new memory, at first they were blurry but the images were getting clearer as the pain increased. "Now, what's the third wish?" Dominic addressed my father. "I want you to go to hell when you meet your untimely demise." "Hah! Hell? Been there, done that. Without further ado, I pronounce the two of you, Corpse and Corpse," Reynold declared wearing the most sadistic look ever. His tone was laced with an unnerving sense of humor. The atmosphere became heavy as the words echoed, marking the ominous beginning of a ritual that promised to defy the boundaries between the living and the afterlife. Dominic exchanged looks with Reynold as the right-hand man responded with a nod, he already knew what to do. Reynold pulls out a glove and hands it to Dominic With precision, it was used to pinch the Wolf's Bane as a means of executing his prey. "You may rest in peace," A swift motion followed, as he blew the collected dust towards my parents. The particles danced in the air with a spectral haze that carried nothing but despair. What ensued would forever be etched in the canvas of my memory. Time seemed to slow as I witnessed my parents left at the mercy of the mythical poison. Their once-vibrant skins metamorphosed into a haunting shade of purple, a grotesque tableau of the encroaching doom. Crackles echoed through the air as their forms began to disintegrate, a spectacle that marked the horrifying consequences of crossing paths with the deadly Wolf's Bane. Just watching them like that, It was evident that the pain I was currently experiencing was a tickle compared to what they were going through. Yet, despite all of that, they did not allow me to see them cry in agony. They howled in unison. It was the most beautiful yet painful howl that I've ever heard. "Take care of yourself, my beautiful baby girl." Mother collapsed after saying her final words. She lasted less than a minute before losing her life to the wolf's bane. "Mom..." The tears that gushed down from my eyes were like a waterfall. The pain in my head started disappearing slowly. "My Suginite, look alive, eat well, and try your best to find happiness. Remember, we will always be with you. You just have to look within." Father suffered the longest before succumbing to the wolf's bane. "A new record." Dominic had his eyes glued to his wristwatch. "A new record." Dominic had his eyes glued to his wristwatch. "12 minutes, 34 seconds, nobody not even other Alphas has survived longer than half the amount. It was over... My 18 years of living in a fairytale-style manner ended just like that. All it took was some purple-colored dust. Now, I will have to face reality. Phoebe's Pov Despair - That was the one word that can contain the collective emotions I felt. My best friend and protector betrayed the pack. My father, whom I hadn't seen for 3 years, was forced to surrender to the enemy even going as her as to kneel to him. I lost both my parents today. I wanted to badly believe that this was all just another bad dream. "Get up," Dominic's grip tightened on my arm, compelling me to rise to my feet. "Let go of me!" "And why would I do something like that? Didn't you hear your old man? You belong to me now." The weight of his words pressed down on me, this was my fate now. reality sank my very being to the lowest depths. "If I may, Sir," Reynold spoke, interjecting with a respectful tone. "If I may, it's time to address the Silver Night pack." Dominic released his hold on me, he shifted his attention towards his right-hand man. A tense pause lingered in the air as the dynamics within the room shifted. The impending address to the Silver Night pack held an unspoken importance, and the atmosphere crackled with anticipation. It was a pivotal moment, history was in the making, a dark history that is. I steadied myself, and the scene of my parents' demise replayed in my head. "Hmm, yes. They should know that the era of their once beloved Alpha and King is over." He lets go of me and makes his way outside. "Reynold, bring her with you." "Yes sir." With that, Dominic left the palace. Reynold walked towards me wearing a look of concern. He pauses in front of my parent's body and makes a silent bow. He whispered, "Thank you once again, I promise, I won't let anything happen to your legacy, after all. That was the role you gave me, to protect the princess." I darted him a look that houses nothing but rage and killing intent. "Traitor." "Say what you want, but I didn't betray you. You're still alive and safe." "Yeah, all thanks to my parents whom you betrayed." I countered wiping the last of my tears. I had to steel my resolve, regain my cool, and act accordingly. "Princess Phoebe... Understand, this wasn't personal." "My gosh, can you hear yourself right now? This is way beyond personal." Reynold didn't say a thing to me again. He simply gestured for me to follow him. The location was the courtyard. Dominic, Reynold, and I stood side by side. He was ready to address everyone. "For those of you who don't know me, my name is Dominic... And I am the new Lycan king. Your previous king fell by my hands and now, the Silver Night pack will fall under my rulership. If you want to stay, I protect you all. But if you choose to rebel against me... You will a fate similar to your king." I cast my gaze across the courtyard to see the aftermath of the battle. We faced a lot of casualties and losses. I scanned through the people gathered in the place. My eyes locked onto Lee and Keith, standing shoulder to shoulder. A strong wave of emotion seemed to have engulfed them; Keith wrestled with tears, his struggle very evident, while Lee appeared utterly shattered and engulfed by sadness. It wasn't just Keith and Lee, all the members of the Silver Night pack had lifeless eyes. They lost their king, their luna, their brothers, sisters, lovers, and parents. Everyone was in grief. Seeing this further compelled me to compose myself. The weight of grief hung heavily in the air, it was a burden shared by every member of the pack save for Reynold. Each face in the crowd mirrored the ache within my own heart. They weren't merely pack members; they were family. A family loved and revered by my father.
