IV Venator ‘The Hunter’ They rode through a constant mist of rain beneath an iron grey sky where the clouds seemed willing enough to crush them upon the earth. The Roman road, a thing from the early days after the conquest of the South, was badly broken and unkept. The land was wide and open, despite the poor visibility, and mostly covered with sharp yellow gorse and heath. Occasionally, they would pass by a few towering elms, but for the most part, what trees they did see where short and windswept, as if clawed into oddly pained shapes by the winds of that ancient land. They pressed on, Einion seemingly familiar with the lay of the land, but constantly on the lookout for the horrible changes to his home that had been described by the Roman centurion, Flaccus.
