The next morning felt a little lighter; I could feel the sunshine streaming through my window and warming my face. The weight of yesterday's worries seemed to have lifted, and a sense of optimism filled the air.
As I got out of bed, I couldn't help but smile, knowing that today was a fresh start and an opportunity for new beginnings. "Baby, fix your things now; your leave was done yesterday," Kenzo called from the kitchen, his voice filled with excitement.
I chuckled to myself, realizing that even though my leave had ended and happenings were so unfortunate, I was ready to embrace the challenges and adventures that awaited me with Kenzo now that Dad had given us his blessings. It felt so good, as the saying truth would see us free rung in my mind. I knew that no matter what obstacles we may face, our love and commitment would guide us through. With a renewed sense of purpose, I rushed to pack my belongings, eager to begin this new chapter of our lives together.
"What are you cooking?" I yelled back to Kenzo as the tantalizing aroma filled the air. The smell of his cooking made my stomach growl with anticipation. I couldn't wait to taste the delicious meal he had prepared for us and this little baby inside me, knowing that it was just one of the many ways he showed his love and care for me.
He responded with a mischievous tone, "A surprise, my love. Just wait and see." The anticipation only fueled my excitement as I imagined the delicious dishes we would share in our new beginning.
"So, are you going back to work?" I asked while I zipped my bag after putting the laptop inside.
"Yes! I promise to help you with the expenses, and you would need to go on a checkup at the doctor's office every weekend," he replied.
I couldn't help but feel grateful for his unwavering support and commitment as I walked outside the room and to the kitchen. "How did you know about the monthly checkup anyway?" I asked, crossing my arms while my brows rose.in curiosity.
He chuckled softly, his eyes meeting mine. "I did some research and found out that regular checkups are important for a healthy pregnancy," he explained, his voice filled with genuine concern. "Relax; I learned it from my mother."
"Better be! Because once I learn you impregnated someone, I'll pull all her hair out," I joked, trying to lighten the mood.
He laughed, his hand reaching out to gently squeeze mine. "Don't worry, I'm committed to taking care of you and our baby," he reassured me, his words putting my mind at ease. "I've been doing some research on pregnancy and prenatal care. I want to make sure we're taking all the necessary steps so we won't have to lose our baby again." His words filled my heart with warmth, knowing that he was not only invested in our financial stability but also in the well-being of our growing family.
I sat on the kitchen bar stool and pressed my chin against my hand, contemplating his words. It was comforting to see his determination and dedication towards our future together. As I looked into his eyes, I knew that we were on this journey of parenthood. "So, can I eat now? Your baby is waiting for you," I said with a smile, teasing him playfully.
He chuckled and nodded, reaching over to grab a plate of food that he had prepared for me. As we sat together, enjoying our meal, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed.
"See you on Wednesday!" He winked at me when I dropped him off at his school.
"See you," he kissed me and hopped out of the car, his backpack slung over his shoulder. As I watched him walk towards the school entrance, I wanted to run and stop him, but I tried so hard to stop myself and finally made my way to my school.
I climbed out of the car and took a deep breath before entering the bustling hallways. And as I had anticipated, all eyes were on me as I walked through the crowded school corridors. I could feel the weight of their stares and their curiosity filling the air. I felt exposed and vulnerable, but I smiled at them, trying to maintain my composure and push through the overwhelming feeling of judgment.
"Ms. Stella!" A squeal broke the silence as one of my closest students, Lily, the only one who can talk but is deaf, rushed towards me. She enveloped me in a tight hug, breaking the tension that had been building up inside me. Her genuine excitement and warmth gave me the strength to face the day head-on. "I missed you! We all missed you!"
"Oh, I miss you all too!" I gestured a hand over my heart, feeling a surge of determination.
Together, we navigated the sea of judgmental stares, and with each step, I felt a little more empowered. It was at that moment that I realized I wasn't alone in this battle and that I had a support system ready to uplift me no matter what.
"Welcome back, b*tch!" Nai greeted me rudely before breaking into sobs. "I thought you were not coming back. I was so scared."
I hugged her tightly, feeling a mix of relief and guilt for causing her worry. "I'm sorry for making you feel that way," I whispered. "I thought you were having a great time and that I could confidently leave my students to you."
"Leave? No way! I will never let you leave us! Besides, I cannot measure the impact you have on our lives. You are not just a teacher to us, but a mentor and a friend. We need you as much as you need us." Nai tightened her hug, and soon my students joined her too.
Our head director came in, joined our hug, and never mentioned anything but a gentle smile. "Thank you, Ma'am!"
"You are always welcome," she said before leaving us. As we stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude for the bond we had formed. It was moments like these that reminded me why I became a teacher in the first place. The impact I had on these students' lives went far beyond the classroom walls. They saw me not just as an instructor but as a guiding light, a support system, and a friend. And in return, they became my source of inspiration, reminding me of the importance of my role in their lives—a reminder for me to keep fighting.
"OK, return to your seats, and we will have a quiz!" I made the hand signs, and they all howled but later burst into laughter.
"She is back!" Nai laughed and raised her fist in the air to cheer them on.
"I am taking over, Nai. Go."
"Wow! How grateful!" She sounded sarcastic, but I only laughed.
"Thank you, really!" I said, and when I saw her about to cry again, I shut the door close before she caused any more silence. "So, let's start?"
