"Today is a special day."
"Uhh, why?" I gulped as I watched him take off his neckerchief, the one he had tied around his head giving him the whole bad boy look.
Does he remember that it is my birthday, no he doesn't, how could he remember it yet my own mother forgot about it. She merely cares about anything except her booze supply.
Before I could anticipate his next move, Kyle blindfolded me with his neckerchief.
"Kyle what are you doing?" I asked blushing under the scarf.
"Shhh," he said in that really sensual way that had my insides melting. "Don't say a word Baby girl."
Haha, now this had me grinning like a fool. I could already smell a birthday surprise. He took my one hand in his, wrapped the other around my waist, Oh God, if only he knew how having him close affected me, it heat up my whole body, the funny thing is that he didn't seem to notice it.
Oh God! The smell of his almond perfume the one I brought him on his birthday, mixed with the aftershave didn't make it easier for me at all, he smelled so sweet, I wished I could have a taste, that is if he could blindfold me right now.
"Look forward, love, stop trying to find me when am right behind you. I know am so hot but please face where we are going."
Haha! This corky fool. I did as he asked me, stopped trying to find my boyfriend's gorgeous face and instead looked forward.
"Kyle, where are we going?" Curiosity was indeed killing me.
"Enough with the question, you are about to see for yourself," he sounded a bit irritated, and for some reason I felt saddened by the way he shouted at me.
He must have noticed it, because he leaned in and placed a light kiss on my cheek, "Am sorry baby, I didn't mean to shout at you, it's just I worked so hard on this surprise I don't want it to get ruined."
He didn't even have to say the words, the kiss alone had me bubbled up again. I turned around to face him, rose my hand searching for his face until I could feel it's softness, the feel of his smooth face without even a feel of any hair on it.
"It's okay, babe."
"Thanks for understanding, love, it's just that I have worked so hard on this suprise, I don't want it to end up like last times."
By last time he meant, the surprise dinner he had made for me, candles and all. He had organized everything so beautifully but by the time he took me there the table was surrounded by all the cute little beautiful orphanage kids surrounding the table and we found them finishing the dessert. Actually we found nun Elise greedily finishing the cake.
It was so funny, Kyle wanted to get angry at them, he flinched un flinched but he ended up bursting into laughter most especially when they all hugged him and thanked him for the meal.
Nun Elise also praised his cooking. She is such a lovely lady, nice kind and very caring to everyone, she treats all the kids at the orphanage like her own, no wonder Kyle sometimes refers to her as his mom. She was the one who found him at the door step, she was the one who gave him that sweet name, and she has been the mother figure to him until now.
"We are here cute pie," I blushed at the nickname as he took the blindfold from my eyes. With Kyle you can never get used to something’s, the care, the love, the nicknames, the hugs. He is just so perfect.
Taking off the blindfold, I was so excited for my birthday surprise only to find nothing in front me but a solid rock mountain.
"Kyleee," I called trying as hard as I could to hide my disappointment. "Where is my surprise?"
He was staring up and the top smiling brightly like a crown, a beautiful one. Haha. He laughed lightly before looking down at me. "It's not here, it's up there," he pointed at the top.
Okay, I took a deep breath, relieved that he wasn't going to call rock collection a birthday gift.
“Have you ever been at the top before?" Kyle asked.
"No. My dad had planned to take me and mom for hiking at the mountains in the summer the year he died, unfortunately he didn't reach it. He died before that summer," I replied, remembering those days when my family was together, we were so happy, we had the entire world in our palms until it got snatched away from us in the blink of an eye.
I didn't even realize I was crying until Kyle cupped my face in his hands and cleaned the tears from my face with his hands and fingers. He knew how much the topic of my dad touched my heart, thinking of him always made me cry, I missed him so much. We stayed silent for a moment as he held me in his arms, letting me cry on his shoulders as he wiped my tears over and over again.
In ten minutes or So, I stopped crying. "How you feeling now Buttercup?" He was looking at me his gorgeous face marred with so much worry and concern for me. "We could go home, and celebrate your birthday there."
"No!," I said a little too fast. He had spent so much time, preparing this for me, I couldn't spoil it and waste all his hard work.
I grabbed the torch from his arms since where we were going was pitch-black and there was barely any street lights and started walking with him following behind.
Kyle laughed at my movements, I have been here a dozen of times, you don't have to be scared."
"Yeah, but it's dark. Plus I don't want to die on my 18th birthday. I still have lot of things to do. Get married to you and carry your kids," I replied, rolling my eyes. I had a fear of cars since my dad died in a car accident and am also terrified of heights for no reasons.
His hand reached out and clasped around my thigh, “I won't let you die," My nerves raced as we further went on further until we were at the,
"Welcome to the top of Miracle Mountain, my beautiful princess."
Panting, I stopped beside him, at the edge of the mountain. The view from the mountain got my breath and I gasped. "Whoa," I whispered, trying to keep my eyes open.
It was huge compared to the picture I had in my mind. Up here you could see the entire Silver woodtown, I could see the numerous lights shining at the beach where so many people were enjoying their last night of summer around camp fires. The view was so beautiful but also the top felt peaceful but cold.
I looked over to Kyle who had removed he's jacket handing it over to me I rolled my eyes taking it rapping it around my shoulders. "It's not that cold." I muttered breathing in his scent on the jacket.
This was his turn to roll his eyes, "Great I can have my jacket back now"
"Noo," I slapped his hands away, clinging onto his jacket, "I didn't tell you that I don't want the jacket."
He chuckled, pulling me into his arms, “I know you were just looking for a nice excuse to wear my jacket."
"No that's not true," I shrugged and made a poor attempt of looking angry. I tried to pull myself out of his arms but that was a poor attempt too since he was stronger, I ended up flash against his chest. Oh God! When did he get this so much muscle.
I looked to meet his beautiful emerald eyes and he was smiling down at me, that million dollar smile on display. Ohh! God, I could die a happy woman right now.
"You can keep it."
"What! No, I don't want your jacket."
"It's a gift, keep it, no questions asked." He walked away leaving no room for questions, sometimes he can turn into a control freak but who am I kidding I love this side of him too.
"Are you coming or not?" he asked already far in front of me.
“Coming," I picked up my speed until I caught up with him. His hand snaked around my waist as we stood at the edge, Kyle holding me in his embrace.
“Breathtaking, right?"
"Yeah, I never thought this was that beautiful," There was so much to explore in the town, I had seen nothing, yet I had been living here ever since I was a young.
"Well, it is. Just wait for the fireworks," He mumbled, pressing hard against me. "You'll be amazed, my butterfly" Gently, he brushed his lips over my neck, teasing and telling me what was coming next.
It was almost ten when Kyle set up a small picnic and we sat down on the mat, enjoying the weather, candles and everything ahead of me not to mention the mouth watering lasagna my baby made.
I curled myself against Kyle's body and waited for the blazing fireworks to hit the sky. While we waited, Kyle traced his finger down my arm over his jacket and whispered sweet nothings in my ears. My cheeks blushed even more and more, I didn't have to look in a mirror to know that they were now as red as a big fat ripe tomato. My face glowed up even more when he kissed my red cheeks.
“I will marry you some day, do you know that?" He asked, his thumbs now caressing my cheeks.Godd, the butterflies were killing me, I felt like my tummy was about to blow up anytime soon because of the euphoria.
"Am so waiting for that day, I can't spend a day without asking God, to bring that day, the day we become one, closer," I replied, twisting my lock around my finger.
“ohhh," he growled happily. "I can already imagine you my princess in a pretty dress like the one from that Cinderella fairy tale?" My face turned into a scowl as I turned to look at him. "I don't want to look like Cinderella on my wedding."
"Why?" I shrugged at his question-there were a few reasons but most of them was mostly because I wasn't a Cinderella, I was me Harley Beckett simple and plain, the only 18 year old girl in this century who doesn't know how to put on makeup.
Telling Kyle about this will only make him ask more questions. I folded my leg across the other one and kept quiet until he repeated the question. "Come on babe, tell me. Is it because we can't afford it?"
“No!" I laughed, jolting to face him completely. "0f course, not! I just don't know how to walk in heels, I've never won any in my entire life "I lied.
“I don't believe it," He looked away, frowning.
"Fine. I wore my mom's heels on prom. The reason I don't want all that is because I see no way we are ever going to achieve it. Plus am contented with whatever we will be able to get. As long as am with you that's all that matters." I explained, blinking slowly, imagining myself in a simple peach colored dress walking to the altar.
Kyle's face hardened at my reply, "We are not going to be poor forever that I promise you. Am going to study two times harder, get that government scholarship to college, get that MBA, get a nice polished job and then I will give my princess everything she deserves" He said squeezing me harder in his arms.
He smiled kindly at me and I couldn't help but smile back, I couldn't get myself to not smile when he had given me the most gorgeous smile I had grown used to. Dreams, It's okay for everyone to dream in this world, the only hard part is achieving it.
“I want you to know that I love you so much my pretty little Mrs. Willows."
"I love you too, my charming husband" I said and just then, the fireworks blew and cracked the silence. The fireworks were done above the beach waters. The area lightened up, and the sky changed colors as they erupted. It went on for a couple of minutes before the sparkles died down and everything darkened. That was so amazing! I've never seen fireworks so up close," I squealed in joy.
“Do they happen every year?" Kyle tugged me over to his side, “Yes, they do but only on every last night of summer."
‘’ Wow, they are so beautiful."
"I know but not as beautiful as you are."
"Are you sure about that?" I poked him in the shoulder playfully.
"Am more than sure." He pulled me back into his arms rested his face in the crook of my neck as we watched the second set of fireworks erupt "Happy birthday, baby girl."
This is all I ever wanted in life.
Me and Kyle Willows forever.
Now and forever.
