DR. ROSANA DOMINGUEZ
The first military helicopter landed in the jungle clearing, blowing the surrounding vegetation into a frenzy of bend-but-not-break twists and leans. Rosana climbed out of the chopper last, ducking low and following ten combat-equipped Mexican Marines toward her base camp. She carried no weapon other than a 12-inch Bowie knife she now wore in a sheath on her hip. As her group swept the area near the camp, two more choppers landed briefly, each dropping off another eleven Marines before taking off and hovering in the area. Everybody spoke Spanish—including Rosana, who was fluent. Her group spread out and dropped into cover. The other groups took alternate paths that would allow them to surround the camp area in front of the tunnel. They were quickly in position.
