CHAPTER THIRTEEN THE TREASURE The island looked like a scary rocky mass, lapped by a beach of dark sand where the imposing volcanic formation was soaring. To get to the island, Blackbeard ordered the launches deep into a very narrow and twisting bay; while he was crossing it, he could feel a sense of dismay rising slowly from his bowels. Everywhere he laid his eyes, there were just deadly sights. No trees, bushes or even scattered ferns. Everything looked like a waste land. Even the fauna was missing.
